Had a quick view through the thumbnails. It looks more like a Mess challenge than a Chaos one. It was a really hard subject for me ... And I did submit a "Messy" picture :(
Good luck everyone!

Mine started at a 10! Thank you to that first voter. Now it's barely hanging on to 5, which is more what I expected. Still....it's a thrill seeing your average post as a 10. |

I got a pretty good start, actually, my best start yet! Just sitting under a 6.

Go Judy! I long for the day when I see a 10....
I of course started low, and am climbing back just above 5, but it has been an ugly trip. There are a lot of angry voters out there..... |

i believe the first score i handed out tonight on chaos was a 10. it reminded me of what i had tried to do, but was surpased in every way by this very photo. i had no choice but to bow down and issue the 10, not just because it showed me what's what, but because it really was a highly creative and interesting example of chaos illustrated through the control of the photographer of their subject... and i don't just give 10's away.
could it have been yours? time will tell i guess...

I thought there were a few really excellent shots in the chaos challenge. It was fun to see different peoples takes on the challenge. It was also nice to have a challenge that I could vote on in one sitting! :)
My photo is doing much better than I anticipated. I liked it a lot but I never would have guessed that it would be above 6. Mine is very messy and I guess people are actually viewing it as chaotic. I doubted they would.
edit. sigh. down to 5.6 now. hope it lingers there a while before plummeting further down. :)

I'm surprised I don't have any comments yet. I thought I was going to end up with a low score but a lot of comments.
I predict that I will come in 37th |

gee, pitsaman, i just can't understand why so many people don't appreciate your comments.
that was sarcasm, by the way. i shouldn't need to point that out to you, though, since you seem to be so good at it yourself.

I just ran through the first few and thought " slightly messy, but not chaos" on each one! I don't think anything I have seen comes close ( including my own) to true chaos. I was hoping I would see one and think "Ah yes this is the line I should have been thinking along, here is a good solution." So far all I have seen is untidyness.
How are we supposed to judge these pictures when the subject matter so nebulous? If it is a pretty, well odered and crisp shot, dosen't it by definition miss the challenge?

I agree with all that I`ve read here. It is a hard subject to define..especially when the challenge reading says "Creatively photograph chaos..in whichever way you see fit".
I`ve had only two comments and both are slamming me for not meeting the challenge..from what I`ve seen that`s going to get repeated many times with many images.
Chaos = disorderly = untidy = irregular= confusing and I could probably go on.
My image was based on a combination of the first two..however,in my image you have to think about what`s happening to work that out, and I assume that not too many people are taking the time. :( |

Chaos, simply put, is a state which is impossible to predict changes in or the outcome of, typically due to an incalculable amount of variables within the situation.
A messy closet is not really a good example of chaos.
A hand dropping a fist-full of marbles is an example of chaos, since it would be impossible to predict just how those marbles will fall/position themsleves once they've expended all their kinetic energy.
Chaos is not trouble. It is not a dire situation. It is not clutter.

Darcy:
Whether I agree or not, I think you need to edit your post since it references photos in an ongoing challenge.....

If you think of chaos as in the word chaotic and its common usage however, it does carry a connotation of confusion and disorder.
darcy: you should edit your post BTW
oh, and I wonder if the winning images are going to have relatively low scores for the challenge. Anyone think they're in the running for a ribbon? |

Stupid me!!! where whas my head? I now have the greatest ideea for chaos guranteed 100% ribbon. A picture with all the stuff DPC'rs learned to espect every challenge. Cat, dog, fish, child, some flowers with huge insects in them, a guitar, and a flying bike above all. I'm thinking this whas the perfect chaotic composition for this.
Edit: I forgot to add 2 birds, a wild one in some sort of action and another one domestic, possibly a big a$$ duck. :)

A messy room is not really a good example of chaos.

No ribbon here. 4.9 Only two comments - one gave a 10, the other a 1! The one was based on an incorrect assumption, so I asked for a validation of my photo which I hope comes through soon. *standing on my soapbox* Please remember to vote things as if they are legal! *stepping down off of soap box* |

Congrats on the high score frumoaznicul. Your photos are excellent. I'm surprised you haven't been scoring higher with most of them. It's about time. I guessing that 6.6 will be a very very good score in this challenge. Top 5 at least. |

Thank you Jason for the appreciation, I still have to learn alot, also I belive there is a big deal of lottery in these challenges. So many people vote each with theyr own criterias. I'm not really surprised about anything, but I'd like it if you were right :) I mean who doesn't want to win the lottery? If I win I'd have to thank my girlfriend because I whas going to submit another, but she insisted this will do better. I think Ill use her for picking the submissions for future challenges again. I actualy did for the wheels :)
Edit: If she's right again I hire her, and to everyone interested she sais she will pick one for anyone (5$ a piece) hehe kidding.
