I see treads where people complain about " not enough comments"..."how can we get more comments"....please comment more"...
and when you get comments than it is not correct comment, and you complain about the comment you received, and you call people out , whining, moaning, and more complaining...
Make up your minds please.
and just a hint...more you whine , less comments and votes you will get in the future... |

A comment of "3" deserves questioning when your current average is 6.4** !

A comment "3" could also mean that person did not get touched by your image, not everyone has to vote 6 or 7 on a 6.xxxx image |

I mostly agree with you. Even single word comments are helpful and appreciated by me. But why would someone only post the vote number it's just repetitive. When the contest wraps we already find how how many of every vote we get. Why waste the time and also put it in a comment?

"3" is not a comment. I would rather see sucks, nope, bad, good, like than nothing. But the number "3" is not a comment, it is a score given.
But I do agree with you on the complaining when not getting the right comments stuff

It's a good question... maybe that person is not comfortable with english, maybe he/she does not like to waist any more time with that image ( million other reasons and we can only guess) .
One thing I'm sure of... sending spanish inquisition after someone who left a comment can only do two things...
1- They will never ever vote or comment on DPC
2- next challenge that 3 will turn into 1...

Perhaps they can't vote on the challenge because they're not a paying member, so they're letting you know what the vote should have been.

Exactly what I was going to say Wendy. Which means that your scores have not been lowered in anyway :)

Very good point! I take back my stance on the comment being useless repetition :) |

I wasn't complaining, but I was LOL-ing... as my initial LOL comment about my comment of "3" states :)
Besides how would they lower their score or have less comments in the future during a challenge when it's anonymous?

If you look at images from years ago you will notice the #off comments made during challenge and kind/type of comments made ..there was more of them and much more critical/constructive.... when people complain , or as some took it even further by sending hate mail to commentator it created current DPC.
A lot of people will not comment at all because they had enough of whiners...or they will comment only if there is something positive they can come up with.
when we start complaining about critical comments ( you can complain to a friend in private all you like) all we accomplish is less comments like that for everyone else on this site
I'm not saying that every critique is true, but is it that hard to just mark it as helpful and take it as a man ( or a woman) |

I get it, so we should avoid being critical of critics (right, useful or ID-10T) to ensure future critical comments of all kinds. Because critics can be critical of others work to all end, but those receiving the criticism should stray from criticizing the critical comments from the critics... for fear of being too critical and not receiving enough criticism in the future.
I have marked the "3" comment as useful per your formula. Well... that and it did make me LOL... so in a way it was useful after all.
PS: I love real criticism, it is how we all learn. Like when someone actually says what they think you could have done differently or better (because usually they are right). 3, 4 or even 6 doesn't fit that model, "EPIC FAIL" would be a more useful comment :)

I am going to make comments nice or not nice. if people don't like them, oh well. I am not going to be rude or degrading, I am going to comment how I feel and if I can offer constructive critique. If someone doesnt like it...sorry. The comment section is there for comments. I would rather have a bad comment than no comment. |

Bravo, I think most of us feel the same way.

Oh man, I wish there are more members like you on this site. I really do.
to bad this happens most of times
This is cut a paste from a current thread about commenting for FS (I have no idea how to link this)
By Chandi
"Started off with the noble intention of commenting on every picture. Ran out of steam after receiving some not-so-flattering private messages.
Sorry I upset some of you - nothing personal, I was just trying to help. Lots and lots of amazing pictures in there...." |

Basta,
You can create "quotations" with [ quote=username ] and [ /quote ] tags; just do them without the spaces.

As to Chandi's point, that's why I pretty much stopped commenting during voting except to praise, and after challenges also to targeted images where I know my feedback is welcomed.

...Have to agree with the comments made by Bear_Musics and Chandi in this regard. I started off rather meekly but commented more aggressively once I gained some confidence, only to stop making any critical comments altogether... the response sometimes was not worth the effort.

You have rated 58 of 58 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 58 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.7586
(BTW - If you don't like my comment, I'm fine with that - you can pm me if you want - I will be happy to explain what I meant if it isn't clear) |

I just looked back at some of my terrible entries, and man those comments made me laugh. I guess I don't like the "constructive" ones on a shot I think is good, from some lame S.O.B. who thinks I don't meet the challenge. Why?
And why PM someone about the comment during a challenge? unless its to say thanks- you made my day. I don't want to hear from the person otherwise. I want them to stop wasting time and to go re-shoot their photo based upon my suggestions!
