So my boys had to walk to school on their own thismorning as I had issues that I wont bore you with.
They are nearly 6 and 11. They have done it a few times before. I have walked with them so many times, taught them all I can about road sense, where to cross, where not to cross, how to cross, how important it is to cross at the lollipop lady and any other safe places and so on.
I know that they are not old enough and that I should know better.
My 6 year old ran out into the road after he saw someone else do it. He was following a girl who is 11 who ran across the road. There was no imminent danger but it is still a danger.
I dont want people telling me how they are too young and so on, this will not help me and it will not happen again. The school is just round the corner and cars do drive slowly.
I just want to know if anyone has seen a video which uses "scare tactics" to show the kids what can happen if they run into the road at the wrong time. I have searched YouTube and various other sites but am probably searching under the wrong words.
Can anyone help?

not sure how many scare tactic videos you will find for that age group, it would probably be very effective.
someone had posted a video a while back, i cant remember what the topic was for, drunk driving something maybe. that i imaging would be very effective as it was not too graphic but very to the point, you could show them that and sell it as "this is why you need to pay attention and watch because the drivers dont".
i cant seem to find the link, maybe someone else can. |

Lol, Thanks but I am trying to teach him to cross at safe crossings and I think this kind of defeats the point!

Just go to liveleak.com and make them watch about 100 videos of people getting turned into chunks by cars... However, you may need to work this program in conjunction with a counselor, as some children find seeing people die to be somewhat traumatic.. Frankly though, "better the devil you know"... |

I taught my kids to respect how dangerous traffic can be by explaining and showing them that most drivers are not safe by watching people drive down the street distracted, speeding and not paying attention to the stop sign on our street or the traffic signals while we are walking. Then I asked them to think about what would happen if the driver didn't see them when they were crossing...
They don't need to see the blood and gore to have the point made as long as they understand that life isn't like a video game where you respawn over and over. |
