Cool looking bugs. Any idea what they are?

I have no idea. I went out on the porch to find some geckos and saw these near the door. I really wasn't prepared for a macro so I just shot a few with my G12. Pretty dark and only lit with the flash.

I know there is no scale in there but the big one was about 3 inches long. I was hoping the flash wouldn't startle them. If they would have jumped or flew on me, I would have likely ran out into traffic.

Cool shot, Ken. I have no idea what they are either.

Well their behavior is very similar to stick bugs, so I'm assuming they're probably in the same family. I see stick bugs around my office all the time, and yes, they always come in pairs! And you are indeed correct, the male is the small one ;)

I'm wondering if they're cave crickets:

I think they are most likely the alien things from the Men in Black lounge.
Isn't it funny we naturally assume sex rather than mother rearing child or the like?

not cave crickets - cave crickets have fat bodies and stripey legs, hate light and will jump at you. we have em in our garage.
i was also thinking walking stick. and if it only had the praying hands, would look like a mantis.

Say, aren't these things only found in New Guinea unless they are pets?
