From the challenge text: Orange is defined as "any of a range of colors between red and yellow. Key word ANY. If you think image this is red (a primary color), hold something up that is truly red to your screen. You'll see a fantastic orange hue.
Did this really warrent 51 votes at 3 or under?
Comments please. |

I didn't vote on that particular image. I only made it through about 70% of them, but I would probably have given it a 4. You're right, it does say any, but, I think it should still look orange. I really only see red.
I like the picture though.
Mine though, had 60+ votes of a three or under. And mine has lots of orange, a clear focus, etc.
I guess it's just ugly.

Your title didn't help - red is more commonly related to love than orange (hearts, roses, etc). |

I didn't vote on that shot - but it looks pure red to me, and the same by the numbers
The only red and blue component is basically in the black background. |

I really think monitor calibration was of major importance to this challenge. If your monitor isn't right, you are over compensating in the visual adjustments you do...making it over done looking on a calibrated screen.

In addition to all that's been said... using a wine glass didn't help. I've never seen orange wine. Sorry |

Thanks to those who replied. I must be on a different voting scale than many, because I rarely give a 3 or less in voting and when I do, it's for truly bad images. I'm really not complaining, just surprised how many people didn't like it. I guess that's the beauty of art. It's very subjective. If you ask 50 people if they like an image and 49 hate it and one loves it, is it good or bad? That depends who you ask. Sorry you didn't like it, but the comments are appreciated. Live and learn....and on to the next challenge. |

Tom, to your point- your image may look orange next to a deep red object, but it would also appear very red next to a truly orange object. The real key is how does it look on its own? For this type of challenge, it's better to be obviously orange than on the fringe.
I note that you received more 8 and higher votes than 3 and under, so you might take some comfort from that. |

A lot of questions were asked about this orange shot...it's a glass of water to which I added red and yellow food coloring and shot straight down into the glass...the swirling efect was the colors mingling.. I thought the effect was pretty neat, but everyone else thought it was plain old boring orange...as noted by my scores. |

Tommy, I think it looks orange! Now you've got me wondering about my submission.

It may be red it may be orange. I don't think that was all they were judging on. Look at your shot compared to the others ahead of you. Do you really think it should have a higher score? Seriously! I am not saying this to hurt anyones feelings.
My shot in the orange challenge took 11th place. I think the ones ahead of me deserve to be ahead of me. They are awesome. It helps me to grow as a photographer to critique my own work. Be as hard on yourself as you are on others. You will find that you will grow if you do.
Keep shooting.

The pixels in this photo are red, simple as that. You can look at them numerically and see that there is virtually nothing but red in the pixels. Try removing the green altogether and see if you can tell a difference. I have tried that and I can not tell any difference between when the green is zeroed and when it is not.

On the basic question: "Is it Orange?" If you mixed primary red and primary yellow you have orange. There are many, many shades of orange and you found one very nice, full bodied, shade of orange. For another view of "red" it would be interesting to compare the color in the voting box where it says something like: "Your vote is outlined in red." That red and your orange are worlds apart. |

ug, I thought I had a good shot for the out of place challenge and now I dropped down into the 4s range. My shots for the members challenge do well but my shots for the normal challenges don't I almost feel like exclusivly participating in members challenges and skipping the whole "my shot's scores are down."
Of course members challenges get alot less photos in them than normal challenges so, in my theory, scores are usaully higher.
I also realize that it is not the scores you get out of them, but what you get out of it that counts. |

There are many shades of orange, but this is not one of them. This is as red as you are going to get. There is no green in this image, remove the green from this photo and compare to the original if you don't believe me.
