I recently got my hard disk upgraded, made my old hard disk slave and new master.
My computer was an ibm pc purchased in 2000, well in december 2003 warranty got over .
It came with a pre loaded windows 98 second edition
Now here are some question i need help with.
How can i check which version of windows am i using . ( i have a feeling the vendor has changed it)
Since i still have my old hard disk attached to my PC, is there any way i can copy orginal windows 98 SE into my new hard disk ( i.e from slave to master).Ibm only gave recovery cd with PC and did not give any windows 98 se cd.
Recovery cd had all the drivers , i.e mother board , monitor , mouse etc. I have noticed that for graphic gard ( it is on board ) vendor installed intel graphic technolgy ( i dont remember what was installed earlier but i am sure this was not)
So how can i instal my orginal drivers for graphic card .
also i am having problems with my calibration ( it was optimum) earlier) for which i have started this post Post on calibration
I did try calibrating but i have seen this visible change since past.
Earlier when i switched on PC color of monitor used to be dark gray( i have made backgroundit neutral gray) and after every software was loaded color switched to light gray( as a result of my earlier calibration) but now there is no change i mean from point i start my PC till the point software are loaded color remains same.

Is your old drive still the C drive ?
If not you'll have broken any program associations, like startup files and so on.
The calibration stuff you are talking about should be Adobe Gamma running, you should be able to see it in Start->Programs->Startup on the menu.
If you go to the control panel, and open the system tab, you should see what OS you are running, under General.
If you've been upgraded past windows 98SE - stick with it, don't go back :) |

Do you want to know what version of windows you are running now, or the one that was on your old drive?
As for the drivers, if you fell OK with it. Open your computer up and have a look on your motherboard for any words or numbers (name or serial number). Do a search on Google and you'll probably find the drivers using the name or numbers you find. |

no my old drive is not c drive.
I checked i am still running windows 98 se , reason i thought my OS was changed was because before i got my HDD changed there was visible change color of monitor when i switched on i.e after all programme were loaded from dark gray it used to change to light gray.
Well as far as drivers are concerened, i have my iorginal on my cd, how do i install them and remove the lastest one.
Is there a way i can know if calibration i have done is actually taken place as earlier images were same in PS, Irfan view and Internet Explorer

If the current drivers you have are working, why change them?
Now, I'm doing this from memory, it's been a while since I've used WIndows 98...
If you want change or setup devices:
1. Right-click My Computer
2. Click Properties
3. click the Device Manager tab
The window that appears shows all of the devices connected into your computer. If you see one with a yellow icon, it means that your computer doesn't know what the device is and you need to tell it where your drivers are.
Double click on the yellow icon
Click on the Driver tab
Click on Update Driver
Point it towards your CD and the correct location of your files
Click OK
It should now look for and install the right drivers.
ALso, have a wee look on Microsoft's Device Manager help pages. |

are you booting the OS from the slave drive?
sounds like you havent put an OS on the new one...
not the best idea if thats the case.
one thing you could do to keep your original operating enviroment would be to run the new drive as the slave drive, and continue to use the old one as the boot/master drive.

I dont boot OS from slave but master.
My whole concern is that as earlier i could visibly see color of my monitor change from un calibrated gray to calibrated gray as soon as all software were loaded now i dont see, is it normal

I just want to know how do i make sure that after i calibrate, what i see in adobe is same as what i see in irfan view, or if i load on web.
Earlier i had all perfectly matched but as soon as i got my hard disk changed i seem to have run into this mess.
Please help as i have to get lots of print outs for my work

You don't really want to use those old drivers.
I would go to the computer/video card manufacturer's website and download all the new drivers.
Sounds to me like you just need to adjust the desktop color in windows properties and then calibrate you monitor with whatever program you have, ie adobe gamma or etc.
When you installed the new drive as master and got a fresh copy of the OS installed you got clean drivers. After running a HD so long the drivers and systems directory can really get messed up.

Here are two images I use to adjust my monitor:
Black and White:
Color:
Also if you do not have adobe gamma try searching for a program called quickgamma.exe

It's recommended to recalibrate after moving a monitor. Calibrate 30 minutes after turning the moniter on to let it warm up.
