Given that there is no way to judge who did and did not break the rules, and no punishment possible from the SC if an entrant admits they were far far from home, this is essentially a free study.
mine was up to 6.7 now its down to

Rightly so! I should think that the flower, animal or bird does not belong to this challenge unless they're integrated somehow to the larger picture of the 100 m from one's abode. Did not look closely yet though but this challenge seems more like a mild version of a free study.
To hell with hte spelling from this machine! The idea seems clear ....

Where are you interpreting that the photo has to integrate with the concept of 100 meters? The challenge was to go no more than 100 meters from your house and photograph something, anything. I think flowers and birds and animals clearly fit this challenge. You folks are getting more warped all the time... |

Agreed. Anything within 100 meters is game, and we just have to trust the challenge topic was adhered to. if the requirement was to show clearly that it was taken within 100 meters, we would have a lot of boring photos of suburban yards.

I'm amazed that it stayed this high. Has been meandering between here and hereabouts from vote to vote, but that's to be expected I suppose.. I still don't expect it to stay, but I can hope!
And it's technically within 100m (the technicality being that as the Niall walks it is more than 100m, but as the Niall looks it ain't. Well within "Your entry for this challenge should be taken outside your home, but not more than 100 meters away.")

???
The challenge simply states:
Venture out for this challenge, but not far! Your entry for this challenge should be taken outside your home, but not more than 100 meters (109 yards) away.
I figured it's just learning to explore your own environment a little more. I agree with bassbone -- people are reading too much into challenges, these days. Flowers, birds and animals fit perfectly into this challenge. (no, I don't have a flower, a bird, or an animal...) |

That's why I am bombed, because I stick with the challenge subject... I should have enter something that no one could say other wise, and just trust me on that :( |

Seriously, how could you prove "in" the picture that it was taken 100 meters from home. I thought about this a lot before entering. Even if I put my home in the picture, how would you know it's where I live?
I think anything that could be found in A yard or on A street or on A sidewalk, etc. has to be given the benefit of the doubt because there's no way of telling.
Most of us have fun with the challenge topic as is and therefore don't cheat. We walked out the front or back door and maybe around the corner and took our picture. I feel sorry for those who think breaking the rules is okay but it's their problem, not mine. If they win and don't get caught they have to live with the guilt. Sooner or later it'll catch up with them.
Anyway, I will vote with no predjudices in mind and hope everyone else does the same. |

I have to aggree with Spiffy I voted this one on how well done the photograph was.. Not on how "pretty" the scene was (personaly I think all challanges should be voted this way but it's hard to get past the eye candy... I took the 100 meters too literally, seriously paceing them off, (but I called that a Challenge to myself) I shot for a week before I found ONE that might be worthy of a 5 |

Some low ballers going out alright. Got a 2 after 35 votes no lower than 5. It's crazy. A 6, 7, 5, 2 pulled it down by 0.2

@PennyStreet
Sure you will never know. I`m new in this community but I don`t expect really that a lot of people would try to cheat. This is a very ambitious community in the theme of photography it is a hobby for the most of us, for some their job but at first our passion and we don`t compete for a prize, only for the glory :-)
By the way I have witnesses in this community for the accuracy of my picture ;-) (which is far away from a good rating)

You are too good, Fred! But now you can vouch that I stuck to challenge rules and that the picture was taken in my backyard. |

There is always hope! In the last Challenge "color on color" I was at 5.3 in the morning and ended the Challenge at exactly 5.6?
I had never seen a 3 point rise like that before, especially at the end of a Challenge. On the other end, I've had 10 point drops in
a blink.
Maybe not in Tripoli, but wouldn't animals, birds and flowers be common place in most immediate environments? |

You must be on your phone. Love that autocorrect feature. What model Android phone are you using? My G2 does not do such invasive corrections.

Oops!! Forgot about that!! I'm on the Droid 2 global. Most of the time the autocorrect is nice, but sometimes it's a real pain!! |

S'okay, I made it back. Was pretty sure this would be a mid-packer. I really like it though and am using it as my desktop background.
