I've actually been looking forward to a minimal challenge, but I agree that light on white at first sounds like a lighting challenge. Since I have no light set up, and it's not winter, Im struggling to think of where I can find light on white in the natural world around me where I can just click the shutter and make it work. |

White crumpled sheet crumpled on ground (outside) for a background of your subject. (using natural light.)

Yes, no cropping, and remember that the resizing must be done in a single step.
You can also sharpen after resizing, but only with the default "sharpen" tool/filter -- nothing which has any settings you can change. |

Guess I didn't realize we had the opportunity to sharpen once. Excellent. Seems in the past, if almost everything in the shot is light or white, any color beyond a pale pastel got dinged. |

You can only resize once. The rules do not say you can only sharpen once. The rules for Minimal editing are very clear. I recommend reading them through instead of guessing...

I did, but I over simplified and was treating it as a sftc, sftc challenge doing nothing but resizing once for challenge specs. Sharpening didn't even enter my mind. |

How about convert to b/w? Or do you have to shoot in b/w? |

You can convert to B&W in post, but it can only be a straight Desaturation. It cannot be adjustable in any way. |

AS mentioned....this one is minimal editing! I might have to give this a go! |
Thanks for posting that, I had looked at top ten for previous challenges and they were stunning entries but not very possible with minimal editing! |

I am looking back at the previous challenges and they look more high key than light on white. In nature there are shadows, and there is no processing this challenge, so hope the voters don't vote down anything without a blown out background, yet white, and don't assume that washed out subjects to avoid shadows are the only subject matter. |

Wow, suddenly all those useless camera functions can become practical! Now I only have to find the manual. |

So far, the only idea I have is to photograph the snow on the hood of my white pickup. |

Good luck with that Richard...but you aren't suppose to discuss your entries until voting ends! ;-P |

So I am in....I think.....it is so hard to look at this photograph and not do anything to it. My fingers are itching to edit it!!! I have never entered a minimal editing challenge before, so it will be interesting to see how it does. |

My image has been submitted. It would benefit from processing, but straight from the camera it is. Just a reminder to everyone to avoid using an adjustable sharpening tool. It is not okay to use your processing software's default setting on a "sharpen" tool, if it is an adjustable sharpening tool. Auto sharpen is okay, as long as no sliders or percentage adjustments are available. |

I have a question about sharpening. I re-sized the image in Photoshop, then sharpened once in Photoshop....no sliders, no adjustments, taken in JPEG. So is it OK to sharpen in Photoshop with just one click of the sharpen tool, as long as it is not adjusted? |

Never-mind...I found the answer. |

I have a question. How many times are we allowed to sharpen? The rules say you can sharpen but they don't say how many times. I sent a ticket to SC several hours ago but they never answered my question. Maybe they don't know either? Ha. |

I am under the assumption that you can sharpen once. However, it would be good to have SC clarify that. |

You are allowed to sharpen more than once either at full size, on the resize, or both. But the restriction is that you can only use 'sharpen' to do it. |

Correct. You can also change the sharpen setting in your camera before taking the picture. |
