The kids and I are headed to philadelphia next week to hang with friends. Anyone interested in connecting for a short gtg? I will be staying in Ardmore and looking for a place that could be fun to shoot.

It would be great to meet you and the brood, Tim! What dates are you going to be around?
03/24/2011 04:14:33 PM · #3
Tues thru friday are the days we will be there all day. I need to talk with friend to see when he would be good to go out - both in day and time of day. Any preference?

Depending on the where and when maybe I can join in. If you'd be interested in actually crossing the bridge into Jersey my aquarium membership allows me to bring in two free guests.

Bribery!

I work all those days but if you want to meet up for a couple of three hours, I can get away if you want to venture to Center City Philly...(Checks calendar quickly...regrets taking Monday off...maybe I can change that out?) I think Thursday best anytime and Wednesday in the morning to 12:30-1:00 p.m.

I will be around next week and my schedule is flexible. Did you have anything in mind that you wanted to see? The Zoo, Camden Aquarium, as Kelli suggested. Valley Forge, the Constitution Center, Longwood gardens? Are you looking for family entertainment or photo ops? There is plenty to see and do in the area. Your friends in Ardmore should have some ideas for you as well.

I will be talking to my friend today and have a good idea of when. As for the where, I am flexible as long as its not too far driving. I will post back later on this afternoon.

You don't really know Philly that well, do you?? It's not that things are far to drive to, it's that the traffic backed up for miles on every two lane road you drive on!

Damn...would love to do a GTG but next week is going to be crazy with work. To bad you weren't in town the following week as the Flash Bus will be there on the 6th. I̢۪ll be there for that for sure.
If you get a chance, check out South Street, always some fun going on there – and of course Jim’s is on 400 South with the best cheese steaks in Philly!

Looks like either wed or thurs morning after 9 am will work. My friend dave was planning on taking me down to center city. Have no clue what that is but since a couple of people have mentioned that place, that might be the place to go. Any overall preference to day?

Jims Pats and Genos all have awful cheesesteaks... Tony lukes is the best out of the "big name" guys. Sure, Geno's has tons of lights, but thats about it.

Wish I could go with you guys, but I'll have work. And friday is opening day, and anyone who knows me knows I don't miss a Phils game lol.

Some places of interest to check out...

Reading Terminal
Eastern State Penitentary
South Street
Comcast Building (built to be shaped like a USB drive)
Ask you friend to take you to King of Prussia Mall (2nd largest mall in america) and you can check out Valley Forge as well.

If you are staying in ardmore, I suggest walking around Route 30/Lancaster Ave, cool little shops, and you may want to check out Suburban Square (more shopping).

oh, and make sure your friend brings you to wawa. You'll want to buy the following: Any form of tastykake (I suggest Butterscotch Krimpetts or Juniors), and soft pretzels.

Center City's a big place. LOL! I drop my hubby off for work at 8, son to school at 8:30, could be at the train station by 9 which would put me in CC by 9:30 latest depending on where I get off. Maybe we could meet at Reading Terminal? Either day would work for me, just let me know what's decided.

eta: I vote Tony Lukes too.

Either Wed. or Thurs. AM is good for me. I have to be at work by noon or so either day.

I should have a firm answer this afternoon on the day. Aidan and Rowan will be with me (each sporting a camera). We shall see how long they hold out before becoming too bored. I will have a rate sheet with me to determine the prices of using them as models. There will also be an extra fee for any images entered at DPC that place in the top 5. ;)

Guess my release forms will be useless then, eh?

Looks like rain Wednesday and sun Thursday.
03/26/2011 12:45:36 PM · #20
So thursday it will be. I can probably be wherever around 9:30. What location makes sense for everyone?
03/26/2011 12:54:16 PM · #21
Robert, where abouts will you be? While I know my way around fairly decently, I haven't worked in the city for 4 years now. My best bet for train stops are 8th & Market (Reading terminal would work) or Rittenhouse Square (close to the 16th & Locust stop). Tim, will guys be driving in or coming by train?

I live a block away from the 9/10 locust stop of Patco.
I think maybe if we meet at Dilworth Plaza at City Hall that might be a good Central location. The Reading Terminal is a block or two from there, the big buildings are a couple of blocks in another, Kimmel Center is another few blocks yet another direction.

West or the 15th Street side.
