One would hope that it's not actually activating the shutter, that'd wear out a D3s shutter in under 3 hours of video at 30fps.

Well, I don't know what happens to the shutter -- as you suggest, probably it is held open while the data is simply sampled 30x/second. I think the counter increments once for each clip captured. |

Download PhotoME and look at your most recent picture. The shutter count will be in there.
I'm at 36313 since Jan 2008

20,417 as of my coffee entry, but it's actually far fewer DIFFERENT photos because many of them were exposure brackets because it was sorta a rushed/hurried experience and I wanted to make sure I'd have leniency later.
I carry my camera thinking about shooting things more than I shoot them. |

50,000 or so, I'm not going to bother with checking exactly.
Funny enough I had one month that was responsible for about 10k out of the 50k, it's really easy to burn through a ton of shots on wildlife, and of course each HDR takes 3 shots, and I do love my HDR. |

I don't count my total frames. Only the good ones... My current camera has shot about 50 great photos so far.

i'm not into quality as much as i'm into quantity.
i average about 150,000 images a year between my two bodies and expect to click my 1,000,000 frame sometime this year...

My camera doesn't take photos, I do. If my camera gets uppity and starts taking it's own photos, I'll send it to Canon to be fixed.
Any way, quality is more important than quantity. I'd rather make one good photo a year than a million crappy ones.

Yeah, I hear that. My ratio isn't quite one-in-a-million, but it could be lots better.
Question is, are all the crappy shots helping to make me better, or are the good shots just accidents? ;)

Some were even worth printing.
Others...ummm...well...I call those practice. |
