Has anyone seen the footage? Amazing video from the helicopters as houses, boats, and everything else is swept away. People are fleeing just ahead of it. |

It's on all the channels here, of course.
But I'm cleaning up a broken glass candle holder now. |

If anyone remembers Northridge, this earthquake/tsunami in Japan is so much worse. Son's best friend lives there (not sure which town) so I'm hoping he's ok. YIKES |

David ( Pug-H), I'm glad you are okay. From the clips I've seen the quake just rolled on and on and on. It must be scary. I hope the worse is over and that you don't suffer any after-effects. Go take photos, man! :-) |

I was standing in front of a building when it hit. I'm very far from the center of it all, but I thought I was sick, dizzy...and then everyone was feeling it. It just keeps getting worse. |

My experience with one 5.2 earthquake in Anchorage, AK compared to Japan's 8.9 earthquake on 03/11/11.
Wow! 5000 times bigger and 354800 times stronger. That's a GREAT big earthquake! Yikes!
You can perform your own calculation to compare your earthquake to the Great one. Example and description here. |

We have 52 members in Japan, at least among those who have disclosed their location. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

It started in New Zealand, now Japan, is the west coast of the US and Canada next?? Anyone knows how much overdue is Vancouver for a major earthquake? Did the scientists predict this monster earthquake in Japan?
PS I don't watch TV and I am only reading news in text, no images, no videos. Too heart breaking and horrible to watch people die. |

Thankfully the channel we are watching has been showing the power of the event, but refraining from showing death and gruesome images. Looks like Hawaii has been spared significant damage. California appears to have dodged the bullet, but there is speculation on CNN that South America may have it worse than North America due to the direction the waves are taking, and the structural properties of the ocean itself.

I was reading a news feed and at a quick glance, this chart seemed to bear an ironic resemblance to a particular art form. Anybody else see it? |

They are evacuating low lying areas of the Oregon coast. I think they have seen some swells, but nothing drastic yet. |
