Uh oh. I guess since I suggested this challenge that means I have to enter something!

Actually, not that long... with a full moon, you get quite a bit of color at 30 seconds. A "proper" exposure under a full moon would be about 1 minute at f/2.8 & ISO 100. It would look exactly as though it were a sunny day. There's about 5% as much light under a full moon as on a sunny day.

Thanks. I'm gonna have to try it, next full moon. I'm tempted to try it now, it's windy & lashing rain but there are street lights.

Don't shoot under sodium vapor lights. Problem solved.

It was much easier to do than I expected. I love the effect!
We are promised to have some stars tonight - what is the minimum time needed to capture star trails? Will I need filters for it? (I have a polarizer and ND4)

Yes you must :)
Great idea for a challenge.
It`s a shame about the lack of moonlight but i`m going to give it shot.

Mine is barely usable at ISO 200, and has a maximum exposure of 15 seconds -- I will have to use other tricks ... :-(

BULB ?

He uses a stone-age P&S with no bulb and precious little of anything else — generally, he's a very eclectic guy.

Hey, it's a third-generation model -- at least let's give it Bronze Age status ... and I got it specifically because it does a little (but only a little) of everything else ...

Now, my entry for Tarot Card was taken with a truly primitive device ... :-)

I should probably enter this challenge. With 21 entries and 12 hours left, it might not take a lot to get an entry that breaks into the top 20.

But by doing so you (and those who follow you) will negate the whole principle behind your action. I think you'd better just stay out ... and let those of us who entered early hash it out ... ;-)

It gets dark at night.

Sure you do. When causing a nightmare you have to suffer it yourself :)

...and you forgot, SCARY!

I went out last night and attempted to create something to enter. Might need to try again tonight though since I didn't really like what I was getting as a result...

I went out last night as well, and actually had to choose among three or four pictures ...

I was going to do it tonight.

It's raining.

I will be overcast all night, so no stars or moon to prove it's night... Am I stuck with street lights to prove it's night, or do I have other options?

You could try and find a place with a large public clock.

I was going to list shot data to help others with their exposures, but was worried it would reveal the identity of my image.

I actually might have an opportunity to shoot for the challenge this evening. It's finally clear, and should stay that way through the night. Now whether I will feel up to it with my head cold from hell is another matter, but there is opportunity!

"You should try to include some element in your photograph that shows it's night time." So not really necessary but I'm sure some voters will ding you for not having it...I'm willing to bet you make the top 30 though. :)

I went out last night to get some shots for this challenge and am pleased with the results (by my novice newbie standards). I had no idea how to take this sort of shot before the challenge was posted so it's great to learn new things whilst having some fun too, just what I was hoping might happen when I stumbled across DPC :)

Having lived in CO for years(western slope), I'm sure anything within a 10 mile radius of RMNP/EP will be easy to identify. ;-) That is, unless you decided to run down to LoDo and set up on the mall, then I'd be hard pressed to know it was yours.

Well, I am in for this. Did a little research and tried some new techniques. I am predicting top 40...

Well, PennyClick motivated me out of the house and led me to a formerly secret spot of hers, so I'm in. We shall see...

LoDo district in Denver is a very photogenic place.
