Very cool. I know that animal well. They occur in Southern Africa and especially in Namibia. Tough as nails they are. In Afrikaans we call them Ratel and the South Africans Defence Force's Anti Mine Vehicle used during the Angolan border war against SWAPO and the Cubans is named after them. |

"What's that, a mouse? Oh, that's nasty!" Haha. I saw this before but it is pretty funny. |

Shutterpug doesn't give a s^*( either, so I can just keep my same user name. |

LOL - I'm beginning to like these little naturalist-type discussions in the morning, before breakfast!
guess I'll see if there's a cobra in the freezer. Probably go nicely with scrambled eggs.
Thanks, franktheyank! |

Oh, it's a slow day on DPC, so regarding that cobra dinner by bad-ass badger, I'm going to tell my own cobra story:
In 1996 I was traveling with two friends in a car driven by a very competent Indian driver, across the Rajastani desert. Now, when the road crosses railroad tracks, if a train is expected - say within the next 1/2 hour or so - all traffic is stopped in both directions. Obviously, this creates sales opportunities for the locals. My companions were asleep when a bunch of kids (in the USA they'd be around 5th grade) approached our car with a small box. The box contained about 8-12 (who's counting) baby cobras. These little snakes were about the size of #2 pencils with VERY fancy erasers, swaying away in their confines. Were the kids selling them? were they trying to get a rise out of me or were they just being 10-year-olds. I dutifully admired the wiggly critters with apparent unconcern (yeah, sure), and dang, completely forgot that I did, after all, have a camera in the car.
For some reason, I decided not to pet the little fellows. |

Alice, I suppose the little guys are venemous even when young. Too bad you didn't get a photo! |
