I've noticed since I bought my new camera, the Canon 7D, my photos are over saturated and have too much contrast when I import into Lightroom. I haven't made any changes besides the camera. When I view the photos using Digital Photo professional the color looks good. Any suggestions on what I need to do in Lightroom to correct this problem? Thank you.
btw. I just use the default import settings.

| Lightroom imports by default +50 Brightness, +25 Contrast and +25 Sharpening. No idea why Adobe came up with this idea. The solution is to have a Zeroed Preset that is used on Import. Zeroed means that all settings are set to zero. |

| I zeroed all the settings and my images are still over saturated and full of noise yet they look great in Digital Professional. I'm going crazy.... |

| Have you updated Adobe Camera Raw? |

| Yes they are raw files. Do I need to manually update the ACR? I guess I assumed this was an automatic function in LR and PSE 9. |

Thanks for the link Mike. It sounds like it would be to my advantage to add DPP to my work flow. I still have to wonder why my colors look good with my 20D in LR and not my 7D? ARGH!

not sure, is it possible that the 7d is shooting in a different color space than what LR is trying to apply? or maybe it just intrprets the raw data differently for some reason?

| Do remember that Lr's default settings are camera-specific. The reason is so that you can separately calibrate as many cameras as you may use with the program. I'm left scratching my head, if you have zeroed the settings, why you'd get over-saturated results. The only thing I can think of is that the tone curve used is aggressive, which could lead to over-saturated, too-contrasty results. Is it set to "Strong Contrast"? |

Sounds like a colour space issue to me.
Make sure your 7D is setup for the same colour space as your old body and you should be good.

| I'll give it a try. May I ask how to do that? |

I'd assume you'd want your 7d to shoot in the Adobe RGB space, as opposed to the smaller sRGB space. Same for Lr. Edit, retouch, process in Adobe RGB, but export images in sRGB for web use, some printing, etc. You could also compare the color space settings with your 20D.
Also, sometimes the import setting in Lr, etc, allows the RAW file to be imported, but adds the settings chosen for Jpegs in-camera. So if you have some Vivid settings, contrast settings inadvertently set in the camera for your jpegs, Lr could be applying those to your RAW imports. Another thing to compare 7D vs 20D is your jpeg settings. Someone who uses Lr could tell you where to check that in the menus/preferences. |

| another thing to try is when you import, its under "apply during import" it has a boatload of presets you can choose. make sure its set to none. |

The color space matches in camera and software (sRGB) and my jpegs are are set to "standard" in camera as well. When the previews are loading in LR the color looks great, when they are done loading the color darkens up (especially blue and greens) and banding appears. They look the same in PSE 9 as well. I wonder if other 7D users are having the same issue?
btw..I pulled out the old 20D and took some test shots and the color looks great in LR. |

| Man, all the "easy" answers are epic failures. I can imagine how frustrating this must be. I did a quick google search on "canon 7d color in Lightroom" and it seems there is a lot of material out there.... I didn't dig into it, as I don't have a 7d and have but have not yet used Lr. So it just likely wouldn't make much sense to me. But oftentimes one can find answers on specific forums (Lr, Canon, etc), too. Hope this search helps some. I am at a loss. |

This Link, in particular, seems to be relevant (and recent!). Scroll down, see the image of dialog box/settings...
Couldn't help myself, had to dig in a little :D |
