i've got some posted from the canon 75-300mm f:4-5.6 III
not a great lense - but i paid $200 for it.
will upgrade eventually - and use this as a travel lense most likely
there are quite a few from it in my vermont directory.

I just bought the Tokina 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 72mm for around $440.00 and I like it very much so far.
All of these were shot with this lens:

And these also with a 2x converter 160-800mm

get the 70-200 F/4L and save up for the 1.4x tele converter--
unless you intend to shoot indoor sports? |

Excellent article (I only say that because he agreed with my original and future lens purchases :) )
originally I got the 50mm 1.8, Then I added a 24-85 and 70-200 F4L to share filters, with a 1.4x teleconverter.
Lately I've added the 17-40 and I adore the 100mm f2.8 macro. |

i have had both the sigma and canon lens and in this range, I would recommend the sigma, it has a nice macro feature and is considerably less than the canon version. I really love and use this lens a LOT. |

I think I am going to go with the Canon EF 70-200/4L USM and also the Canon EF 50/1.8 II. These seem to be the lenses for which I'd really use the most. Oh yeah, and a 1.4x teleconverter :)

75-300 USM IS by canon is a great lens. We sell it where I work for about $453. The image stabilization is great to have, and the USM makes it faster and quieter |
