Is there any other way to attach a picture without posting it first in the portfolio? I see occasionally attached just examples of photos taken by people outside DPC, or photos that we'll help a conversation on a topic without really wanting them in the portfolio. Same for SC. Thanks

Yes, just use the 5th icon that you see above your text input box, the one that looks like a landscape in a frame, and provide the URL of the image file.

If you have a Flickr account, you can also get BBCode from Flickr to post thumbnails that link to Flickr, like this one:

Here's how to do that:

Or just upload them to your workshop folder. Then it doesn't show up in your portfolio when others view your portfolio. That is where I put all of my pictures that I want to post. These pictures usually fall into two categories: #1 I am working on a challenge entry and I need to PM someone with my work in progress to get their opinion, but I don't want everyone else to see. Or #2 it is a work in progress that I want to post in forums, but it really doesn't represent my best work or even my work at all. This way I can post to forums without making a mess of my portfolio, with images I really don't want in there.

Wow! It works! Thank you so much Steve and Jennifer! Perhaps the image is too large, but I'll deal with the details. I did not know the use of the workshop. I learn something every day! Thank you!

I think there's some sort of guideline about the size of images on the forums. Less than 500px

Thumbnails don't work well when embedding and not linking, but it is a courtesy to limit the image size in a forum thread to keep the thread neat and readable.

Interesting about that photo, however. We have a very similar sculpture at the Modern art museum here in Ft. Worth. I wonder if it is by the same artist?

Funny that we chose the same post with images only and not his personal site.

I wondered how people send to other participants an image before submitting it to a challenge. So what's in the workshop is not visible to all. Thanks again.

No, I was just making your link clickable for easy follow up.
