Does anyone remember a book long ago with the same title. It documented how advertisers doctored their ads with subliminal messages. There was the famous Gilbey's gin ad with 3 ice cubes that clearly spelled s-e-x. I think this may make an interesting and creative challenge. Just google the topic for images to see what I mean. Of course I hope that it would be an expert challenge and allow text. |

Perhaps make it "Subliminal Suggestion" to broaden the range of topics a bit? |

Perhaps Subliminal Messages?
* A signal or message designed to pass below (sub) the normal limits of perception.
* An inaudible to the conscious mind (but audible to the unconscious or deeper mind)
* An image transmitted briefly, unperceived consciously, yet perceived unconsciously.

I like the original idea. Subliminal seduction. It's much more difficult and interesting. |

I wonder if the weaker scoring subliminally seducing images are really the better ones :)

I've read that book. Fascinating. I would love a "subliminal message" challenge. description: "send a subliminal message in your photo." |

Sure, could be more interesting and we'll be flooded with glamour/nudes/erotica/sexuality/porn/the-girl-next-door and in-your-face-images without much seduction not to mention subtlety. Or glasses! |

The whole idea is that it would be "subliminal", as per Webster's- existing or functioning below the threshhold of conscious awareness. |

I didn't see 3/4 of those till it was pointed out. Some after pointing out where obvious, but some, errrrg maybe being read into too much??
Edited to add, I would be useless at doing this and voting on this.

Subliminal pretty much means you would not "realize" you were seeing it but your brain would....and blah...blah.....

I, too, have read, and was fascinated by this book. I actually thought I saw the use of one of the techniques on this site. Those that have read the book should recognize the similarity between the comments made by the test subjects and my original comment on this image. It was the sort of cognitive dissonance of it. I don't see anything that interests me, but I'm interested.
Well, I contacted jjbeguin when I made the post-challenge comment. He assured me that anything I saw was purely in my mind. He also gave me permission to discuss it with the community and highlight what I saw. I'm just now getting around to it. I appreciate his openness to allow me to point it out, especially given my original premise of disinterest. I gave it a 6.
Once I was reminded of the book, I begin to search the image. Anyway, here's what I saw upon revisiting it. The red X and the blue E immediately popped out at me. If it were only the blue SEX I'd have been less compelled to reach out and ask him if it were intentional, but the red one seemed so obvious. The book did say that the subliminals could be upside-down or backwards and still register, so that doesn't eliminate, but it alone wasn't enough to persuade me. The red was the OMG moment, and I had to ask him if it was intentional.
Someone please agree so I don't feel like a perv. haha |

Well done. I think you're clever, but jj is either a genius or serendipitously blessed. |

Don't forget the infamous lining up of the Pepsi cans...
Pepsi Sex
This could be a great and hilarious topic to vote on, although I think the speed voters will have a voting average of 2.4. Wouldn't stop me though, Sounds like fun!
