Halford has a distint voice.

Sammy Hagar - solo and Van Halen (sorry David fans, Sammy had the edge on voice, although David was a better showman)
Vince Neil - Motley Crue
Geoff Tate - Queensryche
Klaus Meine - Scorpions
Rob Halford - Judas Priest
Sebastian Bach - Skid Row
Mark Slaughter - Slaughter (ear-piercing live voice)
-just a few, in no apparent order |
Klaus Meine singing "Send me an Angel" It rarely gets any better than that. |

Freddie Mercury is the best vocalist for a band. But there are better individual male vocalists. The best male singer vocal and technically is probably Andrea Bocelli.

I was a huge Queen fan, and basically learned to play guitar by copying Brian May riffs. Queen is still one of my favorites, but frontman David Draiman from Disturbed is a brilliant singer in modern rock.
They found a pretty good photographer too... some kid named Joey. Check out the photo 3rd row from the bottom and 2nd from the left. |

Time to revive this thread and beg your forgiveness, but I have just been informed of one of the hottest sounds for Blues lovers.
Many will already know of him, but I can't think how I have missed him for 10 years!!
Joe Bonamassa! |

Michael Hutchence and Bon Scott, in a dead heat.
And dead is apt, both of them having managed that state via their own excesses (as did Freddie of course). Can't get cooler than that. |

I have to say that I like Brian Johnson far more than Bon Scott. Sacrilige, perhaps, but Johnson carries a song far better and has more range, energy, and passion. |

But Brian's not dead. Can't take a frontman seriously unless he's bit the dust. When he croaks, gimme a call; we'll talk. |

Live Aid 1985. Freddie Stole the show from the likes of Robert Plant, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Prince, Bono, Ozzy, Frampton, Elton John...shall I go on? Go see for yourself. Just Google Live Aid 1985 Freddie Mercury (or Queen). 20 minutes that changed rock history. |

i remember this clearly the first time it aired. i think i wouldn't say he was the best "vocalist" ever, as much as i can say without qualification he was the best "showman" ever. |

Nah still the best!!!
But you are right, he was one hell of a showman, way beyond anyone at that time.
I remember exactly where I was when they said he had died, getting my hair done in Colchester. |

I have to agree...he had a an amazing voice! Sad he is gone.
I have to throw into the mix Chris Cornell from Soundgarden/Audioslave - that boy has a set of lungs! |

i haven't read the whole thread, so i don't know if it's been mentioned - but i remember as a young man watching and recording the tribute concert. i re-watched it dozens of times. the best part was how so much of it was interspersed with freddie's best videos. he loved to entertain. |

I think it's funny that someone registers and posts one comment, pulling up a year old thread from a year ago, just to see who jumps on the band wagon.
It's amazing the number of people that jump. :)
