I just realized we have a whole month to "tweak" our picture...that's great...

If above statement close to what you think during voting, you are a troll of 2010.

For many people it is not so much "best of" as it is "favorite" or "most proud of".

I am just wondering why that is since the vast majority of challenges on this site is one week - and even then some of us procrastinate or wait til last minute. Two weeks I can see to allow to dive in and look through the year but 4 weeks leaves a lot of time for things in Real Life to pull you away or "I've got time' - wait til the last few days". Sometimes deadlines can be good motivator.

But since it has been there for days counting down it is what it is - just surprised it is that long of a submission time.

I was hoping to have a shot for this, actually half the reason i went ahead with the short renewal of my membership until i can afford to get the whole year. I looked... almost nothing in 2010, pretty much stopped shooting everything's from 09. This sucks lol. Oh well next round of challenges I will find something.

Anyone else tired of looking at their entry? ;-)

Worse. I have changed my mind 5 times. It's been a stupid (on my part) waste of productivity. The hours I have spent dithering about "which one" have far exceeded the significance of the challenge. It was somewhat cruel to allow such a long submission window. As of now, I've shelved the best two (or three) and will revisit the issue j-i-t.

I hear ya loud and clear. I made a policy decision and entered an image I love, but that is guaranteed to do poorly, and I am refusing (so far successfully) to second-guess myself, since that would require going back to the external drives and trolling through a year's worth of folders looking for the forgotten gem that would exemplify my year.

Will my resolve hold? I donno. Ask me again on Feb 15th :-)

I keep going back to look at mine, and liking it less and less each time.
But I chose this one, not because its the best I took this year, but because it best represents the entire year for me. So in it stays.
I am itching for the challenge to finally go into voting though

Mine was ready to go before the challenge was announced! I still bring it up and look at it everyday since the day I entered it. And I still love it! It probably won't do well, but so what.

Mine won't do well but I like the image so oh well.
02/06/2011 06:02:27 PM · #86
I'm in, as well. Throw mine in the "probably won't do well" category. But it is my favorite (so for me it's my best) of the year.

One month to submit, only 2 days left still only 299 entries???? Is everyone else not sure which one to pick or processing the heck out of it? We used to have more than 600 entries for Best of the year challenge(with only one week submission timeline)!!

I got mine in the other day after fussing over my choices for 3 1/2 weeks. I think there will be a fair amount of late entries. My wife is trying to choose something. The problem is that she has gotten creamed so frequently, she is afraid to enter now, especially in the yearly super freestudy.

Ever since they introduced the monthly free study, the number of entries in the Best of has gone down.

Also, I think entires are down in general lately. Several sub-100 entry challenges lately.

When there were only 3 or 4 free studies a year we used to get 600+ entries now and then on those, too.

My submission has been made. I won't change my mind anymore. Turns out I chose the image I like the best from 2010. Not even close to the image which might score best. It's 100% impossible to predict voter preferences. In some ways, the month of submission window caused me to find my priorities. So, regardless of the score, I'm proud of what I entered.

I had mine edited and waiting for the challenge to open up. Now I look at it and think that something is missing - maybe because the title is bothering me (which it is for trying to think of a better title).

Then of course there is that *tiny* bit of wonder - maybe I should submit 'x' instead...

I'm forcing myself not to stress on this. I picked my favorite ONE shot, made a tiny edit change (I had already edited it back during the year) and that's it. I'm having the same issue as you; I'm certain my title stinks.

Haha, I am the opposite.
I chose my entry from 3 I was considering, because I thought the title was Oh So Clever (it really isn't, but I like it :-P)

I took mine out and now I'm back to square one :(

This will be my first challenge entry as I am new to the site... I am pretty nervous but excited to see how I do. The picture I chose is good but not great... but one of my personal favorites. This will be a good test to see if it is good or if I just like the subject! :) Don't really know what to expect here, there are a lot of good entries in the current challenges.

i know mine is going to get slammed. as they always do in the free study type challenges. its usually beautiful landscape shots that win ribbons, and with 300+ entries...

i already seemed to enter my best shots already, so this is the best of the rest. but i couldn't resist entering.

i love the picture no matter how it does. i just want to share it.

Welcome Diana!! - stepping into a challenge is a great way to 'jump in and get your feet wet'. Hope this will the first of many challenges for you. Yes this will be a good foray into seeing how the photo will be seen by the DPC masses - but remember tis not the end all and be all so do not get terribly discouraged if it is not as well received as you hoped for.

Same here - took mine out. I'm going to just sit back and enjoy viewing this time around.

The biggest problem I had is that I dont keep the Originals...All imported to Lightroom. Fortunatley I still have some pics on my wife's laptop in cr2 format and I hope that the one I've selected from there would do OK. Other shots which i have considered for it had to all be canned. Bummer. I think for 2011 I should keep the originals of any shot I would consider to enter... id hate to be disqualified for any reason whatsoever.

I also believe the entries will at least top 450

Grumble, grumble...

I had a hard time finding something that I thought would be reasonably well received, that I liked myself, and that also represented my personal style. I had a lot of good shots that I felt would get lost in the shuffle of tons of other good shots, but I finally got one.

I'm going to keep in mind that these entries don't always represent someone's "best" in terms of broad appeal, but often is the one that is a personal favorite or the one they are the most proud of.

Grog warms up club. Grog expects much to leave great comment on.
