"Best of 2010" isn't really a good title for those who enter challenges regular, since you can't use already submitted images :( |

How about "[number of images you entered in 2010 challenges]th Best of 2010"? |

Many times I shoot things that aren't challenge related or shoot something really nice that just doesn't fit into a challenge. It's the ultimate Free Study. |

If you can't enter your supposed best shots for 2010 ( the ones I have entered in challenges fit this description) why call it the best of 2010? It might just as well be called 'Hidden Gems' since they were supposed to be the best shots that you took during the year that weren't in challenges. |

You're right. In fact, I think we should call the challenge: "Majestic Interlude" |

I feel if it is 'The Best of 2010' let all images taken during the year (challenge entries or not) be judged for this grand prize. The 'Hidden Gems' challenge should be used for all other images that weren't entered into challenges during the year. Just my $.02 worth |

I couldn't disagree more! That would be a 100% unfair advantage to all those images that won blue ribbons and scored 7+. For those of us who never scored anywhere near that, at least we have hope that our best shot of 2010 has a chance.
Plus, there are a near infinite reasons that you couldn't or didn't enter a shot in a challenge (including free studies) that you now look back and see the greatness of.
I don't really know why people are even questioning this. That rule is in place for EVERY SINGLE challenge (e.g. it's part of all rulesets). |

It's true. And how boring to look at all the ribbon winners and top scorers again. Really, I have no shortage of things to enter. Quit thinking so quantitatively, folks. Find something you like that qualifies, submit it, and have fun. |

More than anything it is the choice of the title of the challenge. If you want to have the 'Best Of' challenge then make it the best of all challenge images AND other images for the year. Just have a different challenge for all of the other images that weren't in challenges during the year. Calling it a 'best of 2010' challenge implies that it is the best image made during the year.
I'm not usually a person who tries to stir the pot, but in this case I have an issue with the title of the challenge.

How about calling it 'The Best Shot You Didn't Enter In 2010' ? |

Yes, I started thinking about it around the second week of December and started looking through my shots somewhere between Christmas and New Years. I have a few that I might choose from, but still undecided. My goal is to at least beat my "Best of 2009" shot which up until this past week held my number 2 spot on my profile page for pretty much the whole year. My "Magnifying Shot" knocked it down a notch to number 3. As long as I hopefully achieve a 6+ score I'll be a happy camper!
My Best of 2009 shot: "Family Portrait"
ETA: Wow, just noticed the challenge has been posted on the front page. I guess I still have 28 days to decide what to submit...cool!

Sorry to bump this thread again but are you allowed to enter images that have previously been in Side challenges? |

You may enter something from a side challenge you did. As long as you did not enter that shot into any of the Site's Weekly Challenges you will be fine. Side Challenges are run by members and are not the same as the site challenges where you are vying for good placement/ribbons. Just a note: if you use something from your side challenge and any version of that shot, you should go to your portfolio and hide it (to remain anonymous while it is in the voting stage) |

Well if past Best Ofs are any indication prepare to see plenty of those. There's nothing in the rules that say you can't enter an outtake, even one that looks identical to a previous entry. In fact I seem to recall at least one of those winning a ribbon in these challenges.

Best of 2007
Free Study, Apr 2007
Both scored very well, but neither ribboned. Eric hasn't been around for a very long while, either. |

Someday there will be a challenge where everyone agrees exactly what it means ... not.
Personally, I don't like the term "best" in any case -- I'd prefer something like "Picture You Most Want Others To See" ... |

I like 'Best of...'
It allows you to show that great photo, the best you ever took, the one that missed the challenge by a day. It's the one that didn't fit a challenge. It is the photo you like and to hell with DPC!, but you want to show it off just in case:) |

Couldn't you have at least knocked over one of the stones in between shots? :P

Free Study challenge voters always drop the voting bar way down... I wonder how low the bars will be set for this one...
"Ok, regularly I vote 7 for this photo, for Free Study maybe 6 but because this is the best of a year of work, this person should have done much better job, so I give 4"
If above statement close to what you think during voting, you are a troll of 2010. |

Hadn't even thought of that. I'm actually excited about voting in this competition. But scared about my entry too!

I will be voting between 5 and 10, no low votes for this challenge... so, I am a troll neutralizer :P |
