This Christmas I got a great gift, a booster, aka the MB-D80 multi-power battery pack so I can now shoot with 6 AAs or both regular Nikon batteries.

Today the inevitable happened. Both batteries were dead, which sucked, as I very much wanted to get some shots outdoors and the light was going fast. So I removed the booster, did a speed-charge on one battery and used that in the D90 to get the shots, maybe a dozen, total. That was all I changed, just the battery source, nothing else. All fine and dandy.

But when I went to download these photos to iPhoto, the program failed to recognize the previous images on the card that I had taken and already downloaded. I ended up downloading all the images in order to get to the ones I really wanted. It's not a huge amount of work to delete the previos 210 pix to get the 12 I shot today, but it is annoying. FWIW the version of iPhoto I am using is probably a generation or two old. I am using a Macmini and SnowLeopard.

Has anyone else noticed similar occurences with their boosters? Does it somehow mess with software enough that it would have this effect?

I have no idea if it can cause the problem you have listed, I use the same battery grip on my D90 and have not seen any differences in how it works over having a single battery. I did have problems viewing some images a couple of times times but formated the memory card and the problem went away so now I format the memory card each time I clear the card.

I don't know about boosters, but... you may want to try to open Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to download from card to desktop, and then import those into iPhoto. I don't know, if it will work, but I'd give it a try.

DPC always recommends using your computer's OS to copy files from the card to hard drive or other media.

I'm not sure about your file problem, but I did notice that with the D7000, the manual says to change a setting in the cameras tool box if you are going to be using AA's.

It's best to use a card reader so you can drag them right from the card into a file in your drive. That way they don't get "tarnished" by any software for DPC verification purposes.

I usually use image capture if I want to open them directly from the camera and use thumbnail view to choose the group that I want to download. Image capture allows you to direct the photo files you select to a file in your Mac, and also allows you to open them with "preview" or what ever app you choose all in one operation.
If you open the files in "preview", click "slideshow" ,,, from the slideshow you can pick the ones that you want to import to iPhoto as you view them full screen. That way iPhoto don't get cluttered with a lot of duds.
eta, "Image Capture" is in the "applications" folder. You can also select in preferences when I C is open, to open I C when you plug in your camera and turn it on.
The battery going dead probably had more to do with the file problem than did the new battery pack. It may have scrambled something about the file system in the card. It would be a good idea to format that card before continuing to use it.

Thanks all for your input, I'll try Image Capture a bit later today and see what happens :-)

One other good thing about using a card reader is that you will not pull your camera off the table while it's hooked up with a usb cord by moving a laptop. That happened to my S3 Pro in New Mexico in 06.

Boy do I feel stoopid...think I've discovered what the problem was, I had a notebook resting across the bottom left corner of my keyboard, where all kinds of important function buttons are located. So I kinda sorta suspect that was the *problem*, and not the booster at all!

But once again, thanks all for your help and input.
