... ...
Is everyone (ETA: except Marion, of course)bored with this subject yet? I'm not.
Probably everyone is getting ready for the Big Day.
Anyhow: The variation this time is the "Effects" area with drop shadows, inner and outer glows, etc. etc.
In #1, after doing the flip n blend, I made the oval and put it on a separate layer (for the uninitiate Control F does the trick), and applied the options, making sure to change the drop shadow color to blue. Then worked levels on both the background layer, and the layer containing the oval to make a nice contrast, before flattening.
In #2, I first selected just the tent and put it on a separate layer, and applied options as above - in this case also adding 'texture'. Then did the flip n blend to the entire image & rotated.
Many possibilities for originality here, I think. May play with this one for a while.

The Amaryllis this year is a beautiful red. Curious, to contrast with the ones I did last year.

Hare are some more experiments with the procedure I outlined last time:

Digging deeper into the Effects menu, here are some more. Originals are in the notes section of each one.
... ... ... ... ...
Here's roughly how I did them:
1. CAUTION: If using flip n blend do it BEFORE making new layers
2. Select a color or shape from original, and put it on a new layer (Contol J)
3. Return to Background Layer and select the same color or shape
And then INVERT the selection. Put on a new layer
4. Use Effects palette as wished on one or both layers
5. Use Polar Coordinates separately on one or more layers including the background layer
6. Flatten
Note: If I ever re-shoot the tiny bottle on which the pretty girl resides, I'll probably try to get her whole face in! Then, nearly all of the images I have been working with are random samples very blindly picked from original 'shooting date' files that have never been processed.

Flipped horizontal, blended with hard light
Reverse polar coordinates
Flatten
Flip and blend using hard light
A bit of magic happened, then ....
Flatten
Select center pattern
Duplicate layer, create layer mask
Duplicate layer with mask
Apply regular polar coordinates to one layer and blend with hard light
Apply reverse polar coordinates to other layer with mask and blend with lighten
Here's where I can't remember what I did, but here's what the result is:

I've neglected this thread for a bit, so now I'm going to overindulge from the one original to all the following,

Okay - I'll seal the envelope for 2010 with this final December piece.
started from
Nothing unusual in the treatment: Four different isolated areas were tortured individually and then had their colors changed. The huge file was then flattened & reduced to less than 1/2 of it's original size and here 'tis.
Happy New Year! |

Isaac didn't make it to midnight New Year's Eve, but I couldn't sleep and hadn't taken any pictures that day, so I took a few to mess around with until I could crash ... interestingly, the differences in the first batch are all from using different bending modes, the second batch all color-shifts.
I've also been thinking that some of the repeating patterns made (especially) by the Polar-to-Rectangular transformation, made real small and placed end-to-end, might make an interesting border ...Source: Variations:
