I have downloaded the trial of CS5, but have encountered a problem opening some files, but by no means all, that were edited in CS2. The photo displays as a grid pattern, divided into a number of segments. I have attached a screen shot of the last one - is CS5 buggy, or is there something obvious I have done wrong. I am decidedly thick when it comes to photo editing!

Do they still open fine in CS2? If so, try resaving and making sure max compatibility is checked.

Ditto that. Also, are the problem children JPEGs or PSD files? Or some of both? |

What do they look like in Bridge?
On the positive side if the images will not load correctly they look like they would make excellent textures for overlays:) |

JPEGs, open fine in CS2, and the thumbnail in the layers palette displays correctly. Look fine in LR, but haven't tried in Bridge. Tried Colette's suggestion - no joy. I am beginning to think it might be a laptop memory problem (I have 2GB RAM), although why some files should open ok, I don't know.
The overlay idea may be the only way forward! |

If you want to recover them, try opening in CS2 then saving as PSD. Open the PSD in CS5. |
