I generally vote gradually over the week, 20 images here and there at a time, definitely so if it's a big challenge. I don't so them all in 1 sitting. Ok, so that only accounts for 1 vote difference, but presumably others do the same? |

realize, too, that you only need to cast votes on 20% of the images in a given challenge for your votes to count... i usually DO vote on all images, but others have told me that they sometimes don't vote all images for a variety of reasons

| I finished voting and man that has to be the lowest scoring challenge I have done. And I am a fairly generous voters. I am glad I pushed through the mundane because there were a few very clever and well done shots. |

oy! this challenge was brutal.
but having taught a kids photo class a few years back, i can see how the class' shots would not be that great. i hope the reality check can be used by the teacher to help the students with their basic skills... esp for the Ansel-in-the-rough's that might be in the class...

p.s. and i make a motion that whoever suggested the "metal on metal" challenge get a good scrubbing with steel wool (rusty, preferrably)... ;-)

Gaah my last 7 votes have been 6's and my score is going dooown. .( Was up on a great score, but if this is a trend, well, I don't know..

| I came up with my idea at the last minute (literally) and took the shot thinking it would be unique! Yeah, right... there are MANY others used similar ideas with similar executions. What the heck? |

1 critical comment, part of which is correct, and part of which I consider a personal preference thing that I don't agree with. Doing ok for something that I knew was not a killer entry.

You got that right. Worst challenge I've voted in. Lots and lots of snappies.
Lots of stuff that didn't look like it took more than 1/800th of a second to set up or think about.

The "brown ribbon" is last place, so "being in the brown" is basically a score so low you might end up with the brown. |

This whole challenge for me has been a bit strange, not only for the entries but also the voting. Now, I'm overall quite happy with my average so far as I had predicted a 5.2xxx. But there has been wilder swings with my score than I had ever experienced.
At 36 votes my average was 5.2500. Then at 135 it was 5.8593 (before this it was at 5.89xx but was not able to record on my tracker). It continually dropped (steadily, not too unusual) to 5.7905 at 148 votes. Then the next 6 votes (total 154) sent it to 5.7013. That's an average of 3.5 per vote!
Anyway, since writing this I got another vote (a 7) and mine now stands at:

Views: 261
Avg Vote: 5.7097
Comments: 4
Favorites: 0

I have had some really low voters in the last few hours of this competition, my score has dropped a whole tenth of a point with just a few votes. It was holding steady for almost the whole week in the high 5.5 now it had dropped to 5.4 in just a few hours time. Mabey the jr. high class with the similar photo's finally showed up to vote.

Wow, and I thought I was in the running for a brown! After voting, if I can win the brown - it will be an achievement!!
Though I enjoyed the week more knowing I was to be crucified due to subject vs hoping to break 6.0 (I didn't think that was a high score originally-still a newbie)
DP kinda grades on a curve.... But its hard to beat a combo of: out of focus, no clear subject, poor crop, and some guys feet in frame!
