Things I already learned:
1) It's lighter than my 70-200mm 2.8 IS
2) It's pretty damn sharp. MTF's aren't bad on it.
3) Gotta have a stable platform to shoot with it or cracnk your shutter speed way up.

I rent that lens for my zoo shots - I love it!! Congrats on your purchase... can't wait to see samples.

A couple more... but these were taken with the 400mm + 1.4 teleconverter. All images cropped a bit, unsharp mask, NeatImage'd then brought back in PhotoShop to save to web.

I rented a 400 5.6L and I have to say that I was very impressed with the clarity, color and contrast of the images, the speed of focus and the light weight of the lens. Of course it would be nice if it were an f/4 or f/2.8, but then you're talking big $$$...although IS would be a welcome addition.
