The shortest distance between two points is a line. It could be said that the shortest distance between all points is a minimal surface. In the case of a triangle, the minimal surface can be represented by a 9-sided tetrahedral soap film. When one of the sides "pops", a new curved minimal surface is formed. This is the basis for architecture such as the Disney Concert Hall.
