Really? I can't tell you how many profile pages I've looked at and how much I've learned by doing so.

Same here. I used to do it a lot and picked up quite a few tips and tricks along the way.

And individually learning something from checking out profiles is "community" how? In the sense that it brings the COMMUNITY under some kind of togetherness? In the sense that top 5 challenge entries on people's profile pages are indicative of the community as a whole?

Face it, it doesn't mean squat, and doesn't matter what's there. Period.

Along these lines, I wish the top rated photos would be over the last 25-50 or 100 challenges, not all time. Sorry Langdon, but it's still strange seeing this as the top rated of all time photo.

The criteria for what makes a successful entry in a competition is not the same for all participants, and it varies with time. Let each member's profile display their personal definition of success.

The best way to view/study the highest scores of a member is to click on the "down" arrow (next to "Avg") in the challenge entries. No changes.

And to see thumbnails of those entries just click on the arrow in front of the word "Title".

The community votes. The highest scoring photos on a profile page are given by the voting community.

I noted that as well. It does then provide "extra work" for someone. Then, I did further say the best compromise was given in the other forum link.

Totally agree.

With time changes:

Photographer's skills
Photographer's equipment
Voter's sense of what a high scoring image is; the lack of color on the front page is testament to that! :)

So? That has nothing to do with anything. Once they're on the profile page, they are only relevant to individuals, not the community as a whole. THAT would go to things like galleries/Browse/Site Favorites/etc. on the page links. NOT individual profiles.

I think pink-framed DQ'd entries should adorn the first slots in the users' profile page. And your first 5 or 10 entries should be DQ'd just to fill that space.

I oppose not only this suggestion but the first 3 people who oppose my oppososity.

That's pretty much my point. You see the highest rated photo on the individual level. It tells you a lot about the individual photographer's style, as the voting community has seen it.

Maybe its just me, but I find it nice to see how photos fare at the site level down to the individual level.

Lets say a person has entered 150 challenges, but the top 5 are all storm cloud landscape photos. That is a huge indication as I look upon the individual that this person is quite mastered in the subject. If that individual was to choose a landscape, a horse, a flower, a car, and a person, someone who was viewing that profile would lose what that photographer has really excelled at.

You would, if you were stupid enough to only look at those 5 photos. What you are also "losing" right now is the fact that "excelling" at a DPC level isn't as important to everyone on DPC as it is to others. Some people want to be known for what they themselves believe they excel at, not what a site full of voters thought they excelled at at some point in their history.

If you truly, truly wish to get an idea of what the community is liking, and what kind of 'calibration' it is engaged in, there are far better and more accurate methods. If you're putting your hope in improving by , say, looking at some random person's old highest scoring photos then you're in for bitter disappointment indeed. lol. Improving, that is, on a DPC community standard. If you want to improve outside of DPC standards, then you should hope to see people's works that they have chosen for themselves, since you should be seeking out people that are doing work you want to do yourself, and not some crazy site standard for mass production.

It just remains ridiculous to me that there's any notion that what is presented on a profile can or would or does have any effect, whatsoever, on DPC as a whole.
