Hello folks.
I have an Epson printer that does 13x19 inch prints. Every time I go out to look for frames I do not find any, even online, for this size.
Do any of you work with this size for prints? What size frame do you use? What size mats do you use? Do you include a border on the print or do you use mats?
What would be a standard border/mat size for a 13x19 inch print?
I'm thinking of downsizing to 12x18 just to avoid further problems.
Thanks. |

I think Aaron Brohters stocks 13x19 frames. I am in the same ballpark with my Canon Pixma Pro 9000 printer and need to get some of those frames as we speak. Good Luck! |

For those I tend to go for poster frames and size the matte to fit the frame and the opening in the matte to fit the image.

I print on this paper often, and I usually put them into 18x24 frames (sometimes in 16x20). I leave about 1/2-1/3 inch white space on all sides, and mat them myself to the frame size so that about 1/4 inch of the white border is showing. My Logan 30" mat cutter paid for itself many times over. |

That's one option I was considering. I'm also going to use the paper to act as a border, where I can of course.
I'm into panoramas lately and would love to hang one or two on my walls in my hallway but again, what kind of a frame would I need for a pano? The one I want to print comes out to 42 inches long.
I was thinking of using 1/8in plexiglass to mount it on and find a way to hang it on a wall but how would I attach a hook to plexiglass? Or anything for that matter. Epoxy glue?
I love printing my images but when it comes to hanging them up for display.... I have a drawer full of prints waiting. lol |

With prices of mats through the roof I think it may be wise to invest in one myself.
Thanks for the tips. |

Mats don't have to be terribly expensive - if you can use more than one.
Redimat is a supplier I have used extensively. They have fine mats in different styles and colors (I'm not brave, and use only the white and off-white varieties)
another one is:
Golden State Art Since they are local, I go visit them when I need particular mats.
For the gallery, I and my co-op friends usually need mats in some quantity.
And yes, I use 13x19 paper but also mat just about everything. Printing out at 11x14 or 12x18 usually.

3M makes plastic hooks of different sizes which come with double-sticky foam strips which can be used to attach hooks to the plexiglass. I buy then in Target. But I also found that an easy and reliable way to hang things like plexiglass (or a gatorboard - another option for displaying prints which I use often and actually like more than frames lately) is to use "picture-hanging strips" from 3M (similar to velcro, but sturdier) - you affix a few of them to the back of the plexiglass (two or more depending on the size), and the same number to the wall, and press one into the other. I imagine that velcro would probably work too. |

Thanks Alice and Lev. Both excellent tips. I'm off to buy some paper and I'm going to stop at an art store to see if they have any picture hanging strips from 3M. I've been looking for a different way to hang lots of photos and this may be it.
I've come up with an idea myself. I was thinking of buying a 2"x6"-8"x5' wooden board (plank) and painting it flat black. I would then affix it to the wall using screws or nails or even heavy duty velcro. I could then use pins to put up 5x7 prints or smaller in whatever arrangement I want. |

I just used some 13x19 frames for a gallery showing. I printed 8x12 and weighted the mat at the bottom (3 inches at the top, 4 at the bottom, vertical). I had to hand cut the mattes for them though, because Michael's is wicked expensive for custom work like that.
I had just happened to luck across the frames at a yard sale. I've never seen that size in a store.

18x24 frame matted to 12x18. Half-inch bleed edge all around on your print.
