Come on, folks!

Did anyone read the challenge description?

"An S-curve is a line (often in the shape of an 'S') that leads the viewer through the image. Use the classic S-Curve to compose your photo. The curve may be literal or implied."

It's not supposed to be multiple items shaped like an 'S'. It's supposed to be a curved line that leads the viewer's eye through the photo. It doesn't even have to be 'S'-shaped.

It doesn't have to be "in your face" ... just something that leads your eye on a curve of some sort throughout the image.

Yep - I read it, but I also know that the challenge title seems to count for much more than the description. I shot something very literal and it is doing well. Is it right it should be doing well? Certainly not. I actually felt a little guilty at not doing something that is a bit more in keeping with the full description.

Agreed. I have seen a lot of entries that have an obvious S shape that does not lead my eye through the scene. Other entries are without in-your-face S-shapes, but that DO use the technique to lead my eye. Perhaps many have read this as a shapes challenge, like the current triangles?

Mine has a definite s shape, and I thought a very good one. I'm assuming that people did read the description and are arguing that it doesn't lead you through the photo. (though I would debate that. I think an s-curve just by reasoning of being there leads you around a photo.)

Not necessarily. I can think of at least one example in this challenge offhand. I won't call out any entries in the thread, however.

Unusual to only get one comment on a 6+ entry. Are comments few and far between for everyone else?

Based on the recent discussion on what an S-curve is, I'd wager my shot is looking much like the gum on your shoe. Scores are off, as I think heart maintenance is a good idea. Not being cocky, but I thought it might be a top-20 shot. Not sure anymore.

I'm pretty happy with this seeing as it was a quick edit entry

After some thought as to what the s-curve technique is supposed to be, I revisited my votes and revised some. Downward, I'm afraid. There were a lot of entries that seemed to take it as a shapes challenge and not as a compositional technique. I did do the courtesy of leaving explanations on those entries I lowered my vote on, as I would appreciate the same when it is done on one of mine. (Not that it ever happens). Waiting on the hate mail now.

Uh oh, did I hit yours? I already got one PM from someone whose opinion I respect. Not actually "hate mail", just a polite explanation of their approach to the topic.

No, actually you didn't touch on mine, but I appreciate the honesty in voting. I wish more people would comment and be as open as you have. I've got a disease where I only vote and comment on the ones I love, and I should change that. I certainly would become a better photographer if I received more constructive criticism.

I approached it as more of the shape thing because of the triangle running concurrently with it. Reading the explanation again I realize I was wrong. HOWEVER, Those that are voting for either way I believe are still giving me low scores because I don't think they are seeing the S shape in it. I PM'd one commenter and explained and he replied back that it was as plain as day after I pointed it out. Well another low score to add with the ones I've recently been getting. I wonder if I'll ever be able to get a new photo on my front page.

YES!!! I just hit 5.000!

But that was so yesterday...

*sigh*
