More with the Retro Camera app.

Thanks for making mention of that. I just installed it. Fun little program. Except for the ads at the bottom. I would guess the pay version has more camera choices and no ads?

Paid version replaces the ads with a level. It has four camera choices.

But most notably, the paid version gives you full resolution photos. (Both of my Retro photos are linked at full res, although I intend to come back and shrink them down at some point.)

Waiting to run into a photo app that won't run on my 2 year old G1. The Samsung Vibrant looks pretty nice, but for the most part my G1 still does everything I need from it.

Had to go for some tests. This door and crack in the wall were the "art". The first one is using FXCamera heavy contrast (and boy, is it ever), the second using the warm filter. Both straight from the um, phone.

Actually the free version does give you an option to boost the resolution of your pics ... just hit the button you would for settings on your camera - for me it's the button that looks like a piece of paper on the droid ... granted I guess the paid version the resolution is even better? I just have the free one.

The problem I'm having is not uploading 10 photos a day! LOL I haven't had so much fun in a long time. I'm chuckling that these modern gadgets are making our photos look old and lousy, yet we all adore it!!! Kind of Back to the Future in reverse. I have to admit a huge sense of nostalgia, as I have actual photos that look like so many of these. Man I sound old. Next, I'll be talkin' about 'the good ol' days.' :~P

I even waxed a little poetic with this one.

So, iPhone users, I just saw that when Apple releases iOS 4.1 it will include built in HDR. :)

In the event that we DID want to use a phone camera in a challenge, I can't figure out how to get the exif data off of my camera. I've never hooked it up to my PC using a USB, because I usually just send it to myself via email. It seems to be easier, but wouldn't that "corrupt" it according to the DPC rules? And the in camera editing too. Hmmmmm - I'm wondering if that breaks the rules too since it's different than a DSLR.

My Android phone mounts the memory card as a remvoable drive so that I can directly copy the contents. I did just look at the details of these shots and found that the camera magic app has Exif data.

Photoshop Express strips that Exif, but does not overwrite the original file. Retro camera does not save any Exif. It seems to be up to the application you are using as to whether is saves any. So, I guess if you were to use it for a challenge, you would need to make sure your camera app saves an original file with Exif, and copy the file from the flashcard. I expect other Android phones will behave the same way, though I haven't a clue about the iPhone since I don't own one.

I usually send iPhone images to myself via email although I guess I could download them in a wired fashion using iPhoto on my desktop. I just checked and with the five camera apps I used only the default Apple camera preserves the exif data. There is an option to save exif in the preferences with the Hipstamatic camera app. I was thinking that was pretty cool, and then laughed when I found it strips everything except it listed the camera used as Hipstamatic and the model number :)

Images shot with the default camera and edited on the phone with any program stripped the exif. That's pretty lame. You would think at least Adobe Express would leave it in-nice job Adobe!

It seems with the iPhone anyway; the only way you could shoot for a DPC challenge would be to use the default camera and do all your editing on a desktop :( I think a camera phone might have worked great for the "In the style of Nixter" challenge ;-)

If the iPhone captures enough EXIF data (mine has 'date taken' and shows the program as 4.01, which is my operating system on the phone), then you could copy the original to your computer, and still do your editing with phone apps, if that's what you want. The original you copied to the computer would be your proof for validation.

There was a letdown element to this app "SwankoLab" because they wanted me to buy more chemicals for the dark-room. But having revisited it, I really like the stuff that I get- there's a surprise element to it.

Edit to mention: some of these images are actually more appealing when there is motion blur like this one. It has a casual snapshot feel to it - but still an intersting crop / composition always is important.

Doh! You are absolutely right Juli. I didn't even think of that on half a cup of coffee ;-) Mine actually preserves lots of exif with the default camera including, iso, focal length, etc. and would work very well as a proof image after winning a Free Study, lol!

I'm having the same problem. It takes a lot of self control. :D

I have no self-control :-)

using the 360 camera, but don't remember which filter (I've really got to pay attention)...
using the 360 camera with tilt shift filter
using the 360 camera with another mystery filter.
