Shot this one today with my iPhone using the 7.0 MPX app. Post processing done on Mac - just denoised it a bit

Not much to look at, but it was just a first try to experiment with the app. I'm sure I can get more creative with this.

old looking lo-mob filters with current technology as the subject

A good point was made in a comment on this photo, that I think could use a little discussion. It refers to the reflection being an added feature which significantly improves the image. And that it is disappointing since it violates the DPC rule on added features.

Please don't misunderstand. I appreciated the comment, and totally agree with the evaluation. The image is not good without the added reflection.

But it seems to me that a lot of what we are doing in this SC is breaking the 'added feature' rule: the overlays, the light flares, sun spots, etc. And that's not even getting into the various distortions that would be disallowed under DPC rules.

I hope we can get out of the DPC box and just enjoy the final products, regardless of how the images are manipulated.

Part of the appeal of the side challenges is the ability to experiment and try things outside of the normal challenge rulesets. As recently discussed in another thread, int he real world, all that matters is the final product. I feel the challenge rules are there to ensure this remains a primarily a photography site.

Gosh, I hope nobody wants to do real challenge style editing. Yuck. As Steve said, this is purely for fun, experimentation and to push the envelope a bit to see what these phones are capable of.

That was my comment. I didn't mean to suggest that the DPC challenge rules are the measuring stick for good photography. If you've read my posts in other threads, you know that's quite the opposite of what I think. ;-) I just meant to draw a comparison, and, of course, it's only a personal opinion, and not meant to restrict what anyone does. For example, all my editing is happening once I get the photo off my phone.

To clarify, I like added elements in an image, as in a blended layer (overlay) or an obviously hyper-edited final product as in the Expert ruleset here or the "Creative edit" category at 1x.com. I'm less enamoured with a completely software-driven result with no intervention from the photographer, as in your photo.

Edit to add: you only need to look at my portfolio to see the kind of work I do, which is not DPC challenge appropriate: here, here, here.

I understand completely. And I agree that the lucky surprise from playing with a new tool, does not compare with the artistry of a well thought out creation.

My thoughts exactly. This is my first side challenge and I am enjoying the fun of it. Whatever people want to do is certainly fine by me. I appreciate all the editing being done "in-phone" as that will help me learn the most cool new tricks and apps to use for them. But I am happy to see how much more people can push their phone captures processed on a desktop if that is what is what motivates them :)

I just hope people do their best to briefly explain their processing steps to heighten the learning process while we are having fun.

Hope everybody is enjoying this. I know I am, so much so I seem to be doing morning and evening entries! Ha. I'm sure the novelty will wear off after a while.

More with the Retro Camera app.
I looked for an Android version of lo-mob, but nothing turned up after a quick search.

OK, found this in the archive. I remember thinking it was rather funny to find Troll candies :)

Two-fer day too.
Spied this effect from an airplane contrail out my window while brushing my teeth this morning. Taken with toothbrush hanging out of mouth :P

Sounds like a new side challenge: take an image while doing something else at the same time ;)

Thanks for making mention of that. I just installed it. Fun little program. Except for the ads at the bottom. I would guess the pay version has more camera choices and no ads?
