Magnetic,

I really like that match box shot... Changing the perspective a tad and getting the whole box in the frame would have been a really nice shot.. Those are all nice!

The blue bottle probably would have made the top ten. Very nice stuff.

Here are my first run ad's..My wife rejected this idea in favor of the aftershave eye idea. I didn't care one way or the other although I liked the subliminal stuff a bit better as well..it's funner :-)

I think it really depends on the phase of the moon. :)

Most everybody that I "test marketed" the ad's to liked that one as well. They liked the soft focus background and the light sparkling off the water.

I really liked the idea of the rocks but the shot I wanted with a waterfall in background and water splashing up I could not get because it had been raining for 2 days and the water fall was dangerous as h3ll up close!

I nearly fell in a couple of times (wearing my business clothes no less) until I gave up on that shot. If I was wearing my swim trunks I would have waded in to get the shot for sure!!

Mag...

I still like the ad you submitted best.

I really go for glass shots and anything liquid.

I think I mentioned in my notes on this ad that if there had been an orange slice in the water I would have given it a 9. I think I gave it an 8 as it had the torn label (only a .5 reduction really) and the glass didn't do it for me.

I had your ad in the top 12 I think.

for myself, the 2 olive oil bottles were really compelling. i also liked the clean-ness of the CD player.

Yet a lot of people seem to be responding positively to the matchbox, which for me wasn't even a real contender :)

Just goes to show how out of touch I truly am ... : )

thanks, hokie!

that's why i submitted it, but the funny story is that at first I was all about the glass of sparkling water with the lemon. I looked in the cupboard and the only clear glasses we had had the ivy. It wasn't my first choice but I wasn't really dedicated enough to go out and buy something new.

then i felt something was lacking, so i looked in the fridge and I had this orange and a strawberry (pink) seltzer bottle. the pink one really didn't go, so i snagged the orange one and stuck it in there. It looked pretty good and I did about 20 shots moving stuff around. Finally I got one that looked extremely clean, and showed it to my wife and the first thing she says is 'the label is ripped'. I didn't even notice~!

At that point, it being Sunday night, and regarding it more as an exercise than anything, I figured I'd just go ahead and submit it. But people really do have an eye for details! dang perfectionists ;P...

lol

BTW mag..your ad did not suffer the "watered" down look so many ads that use ice do. Probably casue you were using water..heheh.

I am going to tell you my ultra secret way to get perfect looking liquid shots using ice.

I hope nobody else is listening ..(looks around quickly).. Wait..let me clear the forum out..."AND ANOTHER thing on those 1 votes!!!".....

O.k....good..I think that did it.>:-)

Plastic ice and food coloring in spring water!!...shhhhhh!

hehehe : )

yeah, you know the problem for me is I tend to put this off until Sunday afternoon. Like all this week I've been thinking go out and look at games go out and buy games go out and find games, but of course I won't do a freakin thing until Sunday and then it will be too late, so I'll probably pull out a deck of cards, or the pocket chess or something and work like a maniac to make it look like something.

I tried to tell my boss I have to have the week off to get my shot for dpchallenge but she just grimaced and then tightened my manacles.

Deer Park 2...it's the one I would use for an ad if I were looking for a photo to advertise that product. But I liked the one you used too.

ConceptGraphics made a good statement in one of these threads a while back... he made a good observation about the link between creativity and technical saavy... I can't seem to find it now... it was in reference to his "Silver Anniversary" photo from last week....

The first 2 are good, but not my cup of tea.

The 3rd, CD player, I don't like because it just doesn't do anything, it just sort of sits there.

The 5th, batteries, is alright but not great.

Yes I know I skipped the fourth. :)
The fourth I liked very much. The box has character and works really well. The background might have been better with less light on it, but since your subject fills up so much of the picture its not bad. I also don't like the shadow on the lower right corner of the box.

Finally, fire. Fire rocks. :)

Hokie, I really like your Deer Park shots.
DeerPark - The colors on this are great. I love the way the rocks look. I do not like the bottle right in the middle though.

DeerPark1 - I think this is my favorite one. Bottle slightly to the left and the rocks again look great.

DeerPark2 - This one is great but that branch in your background that hands down is distracting to me. Its the only thing I don't like about this picture. The rocks under the bottle look great, I love the color and the horizontal lines on them. The out of focus background with all the trees also look really good.

DeerPark3 - I don't like how the bottle is turned and you can see the small text on the back. If you turned it so that it would face the viewer and the slid it slightly to the left it would look good. Actually it would be very similar to DeerPark1 which I mentioned was my favorite.

Chariot...

More guys like the rock pictures and more girls like the soft focus scenary in the back.

This is EXACTLY why I took the two different shots.

My education is from Va Tech in Marketing/Communication and it is these kinds of things that I spent studying in my senior year (18 years ago).

This is not an absolute. But beer ads do a lot of this.

I worked, briefly, for a spanish food wholeseller tht sold food to spanish owned restaurants when I graduated college and they demanded masculine ads. I always wondered how you made prepared food masculine.

Easy, you get nice looking spanish women SERVING the food, use a lot of RED and make steam come off the food.

Steam and red denotes sex and leads to the women...Voila..

I had one called "dirt...$27.53" but I must have deleted it....

Wow that is way cool. So then what we need to do is find out how many woman we have an how many men we have and then we need to see how pictures are rated based on women's votes and then based on mens votes.

That would be awesome to see.
