I like it. I often have a can or two in my pantry. Sometimes fried Spam is a heavenly thing, it depends on what state of mind one's in.

His mom made SPAM when he was little -- but when I opened it, I must admit, it really did stink! I left the tailings of the SPAM out on the deck while I took my pictures. You'd be amazed at the number of flies there were when I returned!

There's a limit and you have overstepped it. Somethings just are and don't need messing with. Ask your troops who fought in WWII and the British people. When food was in short supply, Spam became a staple food stuff. Being a late war baby, perhaps that's why I love Spam fritters, we were still rationed as I came into being:)

Wot, so this doesn't appeal to you? And both my parents grew up in Britain during WWII, they never had us eating too much Spam, though we had some during my childhood. Though Mum will gladly recount how she had to wring the necks of her pet rabbits for food when she was 10.

You've never eaten a hot dog?

I suggest you read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair -- not too much has fundamentally changed in the last 104 years ... :-(

I've never understood the American reluctance to eat "other" parts of the animal. It's ridiculous. Watch Iron Chef sometime, they are frequently using all of the animal as a matter of course, it's morally preferable actually. Of course, in *my* personal world I rarely encounter the "other" parts, but I can assure you that if I were growing my own meat I'd be consuming all that; it would be a crime not to.

It is, in fact, according to many people more indigenous to their habitat than most of us are, considerably disrespectful to the animal NOT to consume or make use of all of it when we have intentionally slaughtered it.

Ah yes...The Jungle. *shudder* Only eaten hotdogs once since then and my tum definitely felt queasy afterwards.

Yeah, I was going to mention that too. I'm not opposed to eating organ meats and odd parts in principle, but some are just less appealing than others ... also some are more toxic than others -- blowfish (fugu) liver is deadly.

Honest words from a true sailboat cruiser. Anything to eat that don't need refrigeration is good stuff.

Ah, well, we can use the fugu liver on The Enemy.

Lol, seems like 7 Eleven Big Bite hot dogs have been my lunch at work lately. The Spicy Bite is yummy:)

But back on topic for the OP. I think everyone would agree that photography is an expensive hobby. First couple years spent a bunch of money of hardware [mostly consumer grade stuff (lenses), lately gathering lighting equipment and accessories.] Haven't spent a whole lot of money specifically for challenges, but have bought items here and there (sheet of glass, foam board, minor stuff). No studio time for this amateur, just garage time and scrounging around the garage to do a set up shot.

Well, just to be sure, I've reviewed all of my challenge entries, and not one of them featured anything specifically bought for the challenge it appeared in. There were a few cheap op shop things that I had bought because 'sooner or later they might be useful'. Photos I've taken away from home have been taken on outings with my husband (who is not a photographer) or else within the bounds of my hometown. I have spent money on PP programs, but some of them can't be used in challenges anyway, so that expense is more just due to my obsessive compulsive desire to have them. If I won lotto I'd go sick buying cameras, but as it is I have to do with what I have.

I almost never spend anything apart from the odd entry or car parking fee. The exceptions are:

for Miniature II

and

for Rejected Posters - I had to buy the mask and action figure, and I had to find the iron and ironing board, but it turned out we did have those already! ;o)

Sometimes I'll eat the set, too. If I've shot indoors, pretty much yes. If outdoors though well hmm...what's a little extra protein? ;-)

I just realised I used a prop in my current entry that I didn't account for. I didn't buy it for the shoot, but it was rendered unusable as a result of how it was employed in my shot. So that's €1.25/8 onto my total before.
Maybe it wasn't rendered useless... but I didn't want to eat it.
