Already got the perfect rusted thing. The challenge is going to be putting it in an appropriate/interesting environment |

Holy hand grenade, there were 443 entries in Rusted I. Nowadays only FSs bring in entries like that. |

Rusting ships are awesome. Unfortunately, I'm well inland and can only find some rotting wood sailboats at the lakes. Lots of abandoned fiberglass as well, but that only gets ugly with weathering. |

I think farms are the best places to find old farmer tools, including tractors. This is Arizona, if I see a rusting ship around, that would be the Noah's Ark. |

"Your challenge is to find something rusted, and then look for ways to compose an interesting picture around it."
Does this mean that the something rusty must be the subject or that the something rusty must just be a key element in the photo? |

That is up to you as the photographer to decide and for the voter to decide as well. There will always be some people who will ding their vote for "not prominent enough" reasons. (Or too much topaz, etc. etc.) My thinking is that having a visually strong image is more important than satisfying every personal interpretation of the challenge. |

How would something like this do?
Found it and took this shot while traveling through Canada last summer.
ETA Probably not enough rust huh. It's more peeling paint than rust I guess.

I would consider it just fine. Might be some others that could leave "not prominent enough" comments. |

I went out to shoot for this at an excellent junk yard I have gone to before, but my camera literally wouldn't turn on! Bringing it to the shop today... hopefully it's a battery issue.

I would guess to the average voter, the rusted item should be foremost.
HOWEVER, most people here don't read the challenge descriptions and award high scores to photos that DNMC, so it's anybody's guess really. :) |

I've been picking up rusted items of interest in our walks through a park that used to be an old homestead. Now I just have to pick the right item/scene to achieve my sub-5 score. |

Did you check the contacts for rust? |

Sure did. I'm nearly convinced it's a battery issue. All the stores today were closed, so I'll confirm tomorrow morning.
I didn't drop it or anything.

I'm in. My image is super-dull but I don't completely hate it. I predict 5.6 - 5.7. |

I'm in. First time back in a long time.
Predicted score: Low 5's.
But I like my shot, so whatever.... |

Just submitted my entry.
Big shadow issues on Firefox, looks ok on Chrome and IE... don't know what to do with that!
5.6 - 5.9 max.

I'm predicting a 5.1xx for my entry. I like it (of course) but it won't have much appeal to the general DPC population I feel. But then again, I have been wrong with my entries I believe would be popular to most voters.
