OK I have been a member (not a paying one) since 2005. I became a paying member in 2007. I hate to see to forums dropping off like they are..... in 2005, 06, and even 07 people were jumping at the bit to get on a forum. If you don't think you have anything to offer....think again. Anythink is something....I am mainly talking to the new DPC'ers.....but in this case also the old ones. There was a time that you could post something at any time of day and someone responded within a few minutes.... I posted on 5 today thave have not been posted on since....

chomping. it's "chomping at the bit". some sort of horse reference.
or you could have said "jumping at the chance", that would be ok too.
I give you a C+ for effort.

Look, I've got a job too ok? :)

In reality I agree, the activity on the forums seems to have diminished noticeably even since my arrival.

It's the holiday season here in Europe, we have better things to do than post on forums.
For instance looking out the window watching the rain.......

:-p

We are not without our own worthy distractions as well - there's the "observe the paint dry festival" and the "watch the grass grow hootenanny" - so, plenty of obvious reasons why people everywhere are distracted from DPC.

Champing. It's "champing at the bit". Some actual horse reference.

I give you a F for disseminating misinformation. Just because the illiterate use 'chomping' these days does not mean that it is the proper, traditional idiom.

From the nets:

champ 1 (chmp)
v. champed, champ·ing, champs
v.tr. To bite or chew upon noisily. See Synonyms at bite.
v.intr. To work the jaws and teeth vigorously.
Idiom:
champ at the bit

To show impatience at being held back or delayed.

Champing at the bit (or mistakenly as chomping at the bit) refers to a tendency of some horses, when impatient or nervous, and especially if being held back by their riders, to chew on the bit, often salivating excessively. This behavior is sometimes accompanied by head-tossing or pawing at the ground. Because this behavior was most often seen by the general public in horses who were anxious to begin a horse race in the days before the invention of the starting gate, the term has become popular in everyday speech to refer to a person who is anxious to get started or to do something. Because some impatient horses, when held back, would also occasionally rear, a related phrase, "raring to go," is also derived from observations of equine behavior.

One of the more informative things I've read all day.

No, it was a response to Caree but it was sorta off-topic in the context of this thread, and it left me wide open to a riposte from you so I bagged it :-)

Why in the world would you do that? After all, we all enjoy Art's random abuse of other members :)

Besides, you've proven yourself well capable of a counter-riposte, and aside from that, when has art ever gone on the defensive?? Really, he has more of an offensive character... ;)

(I know this is WAYYYY to obscure for public consumption.... WTH, I'm posting it anyway. :) )

In fencing, the riposte (French for retort) is an offensive action with the intent of hitting one's opponent, made by the fencer who has just parried an attack.

Yes, but it is used only after one has been on the defensive :)

That doesn't make it not offensive.
