Challenge suggestion

Just to try and clarify - when I suggested this it was meant to be a light hearted humerous challenge along the lines of people mis-hearing, mis-understanding,double entendre, or indeed spoonerisms.

But the whole thrust was humour, fun and creativity.

That works for me. Should be a fun one to vote on.

I didn't take this challenge topic as mis-assigned quotes, but rather changing a word or letter of a famous quote.

One that came to mind immedialtely,

"Never lick a gift horse in the mouth."

another one

"half of one, 6 dozen of another"

Maybe I'm off base here, but that's how I took it.

this is how i took it... and if I go the misquotes route this is how i will prob portray it...

Pity they didn't use your description:

"A good excuse to enjoy looking through all those famous quotes then gently tweak them to take them in whole new directions . . "

A damn shame, that makes for a much more interesting challenge - not entering, but if I vote, I will keep this in mind.

Yep... there are a lot of misheard song lyrics out there.

Barenaked Ladies used the lyric "Slow Motion Walter, the Fire Engine Guy" in their song "Tonight Is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel".

It's a mishear of "Smoke on the Water, Fire in the Sky" :)

HAHA - well, I do live in mosquito hell Texas.

Reminds me of the first time I went to Texas. I was on Matagorda Bay, and mentioned to the bar tender that it looked like a thunder storm was coming with some wicked lightning. Barely glancing over his shoulder, he replied, "That's not a thunder storm, that is anti-aircraft fire, it is mosquito season.", just as matter of factly as could be.

This could be helpful:Idiotic quotes

My wife and I were in Banff one afternoon and walked by their city hall.

What I heard was "Do you think they have any purple mushrooms in there?"
What she said was "Do you think they have any public washrooms in there?"

Its now a running joke and we use it anytime we miss hear each other.

I kept looking at it thinking - should I reply that they mispelled the word! :)

These are "officially" known as "Mondegreens" ... especially promoted by columnist Jon Carroll of the San Francisco Chronicle (see reference part-way through linked article).

Not to hijack the thread, still, here's another mosquito story.
A while back, visiting Alaska I was defending myself against "incoming" when I was reminded by my Alaskan friends that the state helicopter is, after all, the Mosquito. They show no mercy to those from the lower 48.

A LITTLE CLARIFICATION HERE PLEASE???!!

from what i understand, we will take a famous misquote (one that is already misquoted) and represent it in a photograph right??

and one more thing, are we still supposed to put the correct quotation in the title of the photo??

Nobody knows. It's a complete crapshoot. Nothing anybody says in this thread means spit. The title and description are ambiguous and inscrutable. Just do what you want to do and have some fun in the process, is my suggestion. But it doesn't mean spit :-)

Actually, to be honest, that's mostly a recipe for disaster, score-wise, in these parts. If what you *want* to do is smooth & austere & colorful & harmonious, it works pretty well, otherwise not so well. It's a good way to make like-minded friends though :-)
