Topaz DeNoise 5 is now available as a free upgrade for existing users, or at a discount.

| I've been using the beta for a few days now under PaintShop Pro. No problems at all and it is definitely faster. |

| Yeah, 4 did just come out. How come they upgrade so quickly? |

I went to Topaz's site, and I don't see anything in support of those upgrading. I just bought the bundle two months or so ago just to get "the new" Denoise 4!
What's up with that--why are there no links on their site about policy for current customers interested in how to upgrade (for free)?
Can anyone post the link (to the place on the actual Topaz site, not plug-n-pixels).
And I wonder why I didn't get any notifications too. :(

When you install it, it will pick up the registration code from your previously installed version. |

What Yo_Spiff said. I just downloaded and installed, it picked up my license key, required me to type only my registered name. Here's the download page for all their products:

Well it didn't, but I just went ahead and reentered it and it worked. (It had some code dotted out, but it apparently wasn't right because activation failed until I entered it. And yes, Topaz 4 was already installed and working.
Not a big deal, and I'm not reading word for word, but I was expecting to see a link/button/page for "existing users" that explained things to them.

It seems to work.. :)
ISO 12,800 on a 50D..
Before:
After:
The debanding worked better than expected... I might just have to start living @ ISO 1600...
--Speaking of living at high ISO's, I was pleased that my ISO 1600 image did so well in Shallow DOF.
And that was with DeNoise 4... :) |

I think the best part, besides it producing very good results, is that it is MUCH faster than 4. I recall after buying 4 having some regrets about it--it was just too slow. This is likely why they produced an upgrade so soon after 4, and maybe why they called it version 5 instead of a point release.
I don't recall ever seeing noise banding though--so I haven't tried that feature.

I was super glad to see the debanding... That's the biggest issue at high ISO's with my 50D...

Yeah- it's pretty close to what they did with Detail and ReMask as well. The initial versions came out, then a new one came out that was faster and easier to use. |

Albert Young from Topaz Labs has a nice two part tutorial on their site showing a very straight forward step by step way to use DeNoise 5. He goes through luminance removal, and then a VERY impressive color noise reduction process. Adobe has made gains, but should take notice. Last, but not least he shows examples of noise banding and uses the debanding mode which definitely made a difference.
Basically banded noise runs in vertical and/or horizontal lines that appear to be almost pattern like across and through areas of the photo. I highly recommend the videos to everyone using this product.

Nice little tutorial....thanks for pointing it out.
I found it easier to start with one of the presets and adjust from there but now all the sliders make sense instead of being experimental.

You're welcome. Yes, it really helps doing it in the order shown in the tutorial for best results. I found it helped get better results as well over just experimenting or using a preset with adjustments. Glad you found it beneficial as well. |
