You can smell fresh blood a mile off! Leave her alone. First it was the melons, then the squirrels, give her a chance to settle in:)

Hello Dianne! You will learn so much about photography here. And you are more than welcome to take a crack at my first entry :-)

You might have to give me some pointers on this one.

Sure! Basically put model house (made of metal like tin or copper definitely helps, found it at flea market) atop a non-flammable surface, like an old oil drum lid. I shot handheld so I had no tripod or shutter release at the time. Handy but then image may actually be in focus! Oh yes notice any wind blowing, don't want to set vicinity alight. Wait til dusk. Stuff house with hay and/or newspaper (slightly damp hay gives off light-coloured smoke). Be ready to shoot a lot, fast, and set house alight at as mand openings as you can get at safely. I also had a bbq skewer and dunk bucket of water close by as a safety precaution, to dunk house into. I think I fired that poor little house 4 times that evening!

Have fun!

I would say my first entry, but upon looking at it just now, I am not sure it could be recreated very easy. Something similar maybe, but not exact.

Diane, welcome to DPC. You might try going ton the Photos tab, then choose Search. Type in a subject matter that you would like to shoot (say you like Butterflies)...a new page opens showing you butterfly pictures here. You can then click through them and check to see if they were the photogs first entry, or what their first was (who knows could have been a different butterfly pic). That's just one way. You could also go to the Community tab, and choose Photographer Profiles...search for a photog in your area and see what they entered as a first entry. Could be they shot a landscape or urban shot right there in your own neighborhood that you could recreate. Hope this helps.

Enjoy your stay!

A "stay" is too short. More like "welcome to the rest of your life."

well, this is all a learning experience. My first entry was not in the challenege...any insight on how I can find out why it wasn't?

Did you submit a valid image before the deadline?

If you did, post a copy in your Workshop Folder and PM me a link to it, and I will try and find out what happened.
