Hi all my dear DPC-ers :)

Once again I would like to ask you for some help.. All it takes is about 2 minutes and a good eye..

The thing is I work at a hotel and I was thinking of printing out some shots of mine from Iceland and put up for sale so the tourists can have something a step above a postcard to remember the nature by.

So you could be a real help if you could go to my flickr //www.flickr.com/photos/krisby/sets/72157624385553883/ and take a look at this set. Then comment there or here about what you think tourists are most likely to be interested in.

This could help me loads, for example, i would only have to sell about 5 photos to be able to pay my dpc memebership :)

I'd like to reply, really I would,

But after looking at frostland, the country I love, Kálfshamarsvíkurviti, nature, Icelandic summer, and fjaðrárgljúfur, I found myself on travel.yahoo.com buying the next ticket out of this hot humid New England town.

So, I'd really like to help.....but.....

"The Country I Love" is my favorite. I'm a sucker for blues and greens though. "Pure" is another winner. "Mixing it Up" is a nice picture, but I don't believe that it would go over well with your target audience (it just doesn't say hey, I'm an icelandic plant). Nature is pretty, but you may want to make it a bit brighter.

I would be interested in seeing what the waterfall pictures would look like with a longer exposure.

Good luck to you!!!

I really like all of the with the exception of one, Kálfshamarsvíkurviti...I have traveled some and have purchased this kind of item along with postcards to put in a scrapbook. One of my favorite purchases as a group of pictures with mats that I could put diectly into the photo album or scrapbook that was done from that trip. I also would by works by better photographers even of places that I took the pictures because theirs were always better than mine. I would add them to what else I had from that outing such as maps, ticket stubs, programs etc.

Have you considered some type of note cards packages that contain several prints and descriptions of what was taken or a b it of history of the location. I always would look at those kind of offerings and often would buy them because I got a good deal on lots of picts rather than paying more from fewer items.

Just a thought. You live in a beautiful location and these are gorgeous pictures.

Good luck, I hope you have lots of sales and exposure.

Hi Krisby :)

There are some very nice shots in the group -- however, I think that they could still benefit from some more processing. The problem is, you're competing with other postcards. Postcards are usually very vibrant and eye-catching. You have a wonderful subject, but many of your photos seem quite dark. For example:

seems quite grey. I did a quick edit in photoshop (understand, this is definitely not a great edit -- I just wanted to give you a little more of an idea)

You also need to watch your horizon. If you pull down a guide, you'll notice that your horizon is a little tilted in this photo. It's not very noticeable, but it's tilted. However, there are a couple of your landscapes where the horizon is more noticeably off.

This is a beautiful shot:

but if you look at the levels in photoshop, it's very underexposed and is quite dark. For postcards you want vibrant flowers and rainbow. Again, it's not a good edit, but just to give you an idea -- you can bring out the colors and adjust the exposure to get more of a postcard feel:

The flower should glow even more than that. Bear_music is a great landscape processor -- he's probably be able to make this shot sing.

My favorites, and the ones you should play with a bit more:
fjaðrárgljúfur
quiet reflection (seems a tad soft -- could probably sharpen it effectively)
Páskar - fun shot -- but pretty dark
Nesjavallaleið
Skógarfoss - lighten and bring out the greens a bit more and fix the tilt in the horizon
The country I love - best shot of the bunch - a definite postcard. Unless you want to deepen the sky just a tad, I wouldn't change a thing.

I this vawendy hit it on the head. You have some great substrate but for postcards, but people want cheerful. Processing them for that audience should be the place you want to go...and Wendy provided you a great tip - talk to Bear_Music!

It's really hard to work from the small, underexposed sample, but here's an attempt on one:

It's a striking image, I'd love to see the full-size, straight-from-camera original.
