I just recieved my Sigma 70-200mm f2.8.for Nikon. I really wanted the Sigma 70-300 f2.8 but they quit making them for Nikon.I wanted that extra focal length( I guess that is how you would say it) what would be best going to 400mm or a teleconverter? I want to shoot wildlife.

Unfortunately, 70-200 doesn't do much for wildlife. 400mm does so much more and is well worth waiting/paying for. (sorry deb!) :)
I know that people use teleconverters, but from what I understand, there's a good chance that your autofocus won't work with them, and they do cut down on the light entering the lens.

I use the 70 to 200 with a 1.4 extender and find it tack sharp and love it for wild life as I am able to handhold it for hours at a time. What wildlife takes, speaking only from my point of view, is patience. It is not unusual for me to spend 6 to 7 hours with a particular bird if I think they are going to do something interesting. It's a matter of personal taste I believe and money plays into the equation as well. Check out Arthur Morris and see the shots he gets with the 70 to 200 and I think you will feel much better about your purchase.
