I've been working with this photo of a llamma eating out of a tree and I'm not 100% happy with my edit. I really love the shot, but haven't quite hit on a look for it that I like. Thought I would toss it up here and see what others might do with it.

This is the JPG output from my RAW converter. The "full sized image" link goes to a 5.4 Mb, 15 Mp image.

Here's my own editing effort that I'm not totally happy with:

Thanks.

I gave it a shot, and this is what I came up with.

Sure it's not a camel?

FWIW, I think I would try photomatix on the RAW to get some more detail in the shadows..

Thanks. I think we are all hungry now, so everyone is invited to the llammaque! Bring your own bib.

Shallow DoF highlights the subject matter much better.

Here's something different:

06/10/2010 12:57:26 PM · #16
Here's my take:

Crop to Rule of Thirds for the llama and horizon lines

Topaz Spicify

Gaussian Blur for DOF to support llama as focal point (masking at varying degrees of intensity)

Nik Color Contrast for more pop, added vignette and some darkening to anchor at the bottom of the frame and to draw the eye toward the llama

Black and White Adjustment layer with a gradient to tone down previous adjustments which had turned the grass too yellow, at 50% Opacity and 50% Fill

Thanks for the opportunity to play!

I like this better than the rest....

the change in depth of field and area occupied by it have given a great feeling to it

i wanted to capture the hot and arid feel of the picture i didnt crop it because i forgot but i would have probably only changed the framing slightly.
