I have two cameras Nikon D50 and Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D. I ordered a Sigma 100-300mm f/4 for my Minolta because they do not make one for Nikon now.It is to come UPS tomorrow. Now here is the problem...... Last night the shutter button, on my Minolta, decided it would only work when it wanted to.I called Manolta(Sony) and just to start with it will be $250.00 to repair and you know it will end up costing more than that. Now, is it worth fixing, so I can have the lens I want, or get a new camera and lens?

I do not know much about cameras so Im not really answering your question... just bouncing ideas off... how old is the camera thats broken? Will the lens that you want work with any other camera? (might be a good upgrade time) why did you want this particular lens and can it be returned if you decide to get another camera?

Would the new lens work on the Sony Alpha?

What do you mean "it works when it wants to? Is it once in awhile? 1/2 the time?

Used Maxxum 5D's are selling for about $250 on eBay like this one which supposedly is "like new."
Or just apply the $250 + toward a new Sony DSLR....? |

| It works once and awhile, nothing you can count on when that once in a life time shot comes along! That would be my luck. I called Amazon about the Nikon lens and it is on 3-4 months backorder. Another co. said they figured Sigma quit making it for Nikon, but no reason why.I will check out Sony Alpha. |
