I've got a decent score... I wish it was a bit higher, but don't we all...

I take your comment as coming from a member of a team whose average is 90%+ during dpl2 ...... so I know what "likely and probable" means in this case :-)

ETA: "perhaps higher scores" too :-)

People are posting their 100 vote check-in in the Peanuts thread and I'm still @ 80 votes. Where are the voters?

Not bad considering I almost pulled it 20 seconds before midnight.

Well obviously they've gone nuts...

I'm liking this challenge very much -- but I'm really disliking voting on this challenge. For all of the straight on shots of the paintings/sketches, there's not much photography involved. They are all photographed nicely, but I found myself voting on the quality of their artwork, because that's what distinguished the individual shots. That doesn't seem quite right to me, but how else do you judge a photograph of a painting? When I vote on a photograph, what moves me is important, and it's important for a photograph of artwork as well.

I'm so confused...

You have rated 30 of 146 images (21%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.2667.

It took me several attempts to answer this question. I guess I'm kinda confused too.

There has to be a good balance of artistry and execution. A straight-on shot of sketches or paintings does not leave a lot of room for showing up in the execution (department), imo. Unless you are Da Vinci and you took a picture of The Mona Lisa then you can go away with the execution. Last time I checked, he is not a member.

I rated how the artwork was presented/photographed rather than the art itself. The highest score I gave to straight on shots was a 5.

And yet, if a photograph is a good photograph of something that moves you, it would score high in another challenge. Photographs of beautiful people, or weathered faces do much better than the same quality portrait of an dull looking, middle aged person.(which is why the self-portrait challenge scares me, since I fall into the latter category :)

Think about it -- a picture taken from an angle does not show off the picture as well as straight on. So, as far as representing the artwork, a straight on shot is one of the best ways of dealing with it.

(I didn't enter this challenge, I'm just confused on the judging of it.)

The challenge description says "Show what else you do." To me, that meant depicting some part of some other creative venture--whether final product, the process, the materials, or the tools.

I finished a first pass of voting and had no problem scoring pictures of tools highly. Where I ran into most trouble was where it was a picture of some "thing" with no indication that the photographer had anything to do with the thing photographed or the creation of it.

Funny I had pretty much the opposite reaction. As you said the challenge was "Show what else you do... sketches, paintings, sculptures, etc." so I think the challenge was shooting " sketches, paintings, sculptures, etc." and making it look like that you did them.

Tools, be they a torch, a brush or a bottle of jack, are not art, they can help make art, but not without the hand of the artist. Its a bit like submitting an image of an image of a nude adult to a "children" challenge. OK, I'll grant you that it is step one, but its not the finished product.

Bump. Just a reminder, you still have a chance to vote and do some damage to the photos.jkjkjk Less than 13 hours to go and the votes are barely over 100.

I usually never know if my picture is good .. but I almost certainly know when it is a crap and this is scoring way above my expectations!

Strange as it might sound, my question after the challenge ends tonight will be 'Why did this score SO HIGH?'

The same reason a Marcel DuChamp toilet can sell for $3 million: it's art! ;-)

I have other priorities this week, but it's possible if I can work through them.
