That's exactly what I thought, too. I dont' think MIB is the brother anymore than it is John. But it seems to have a piece of both in it (based on things it's said, like when it told Kate that it's mother was crazy, too).
What I want to know the most is, how are they going to reconcile the two "alernate universes" (or whatever they are called)?? |

Easy FourPoint7 (Joe) is on the right track I think with this:

What my husband and I think is going to happen and what they have been setting up is the all those who are on the island have to die in order to move into the alternate universe....all that is EXCEPT the new guardian. And that is either going to be Jack, Hurley or Sawyer. Notice, no one in the alternate timeline has died. They have come close to dying but I think that is only to show them where they had come from and what opportunity they have now to have a "happy life". However for Both realities to exist - someone has to die in the alternate timeline and that will be who the guardian of the island is. So either Jack, Sawyer, or Hurley HAS to die in the alternate timeline for all things to balance. Makes sense or did I leave someone LOST in the explanation of what we think will happen;-P?

thats a great explanation makes a lot of sense. one of them will live in 2007, but in alt-2004 that person will have to die to avoid a paradox? and that person will be the future guardian of the island.
I have to say they pushed us in the jack/sawyer direction for so long it makes me assume it would be hurley....after all hurley can talk to dead people a la MIB.
and just to add to everyone else's comment...WHY didnt they tell us his name??? are they saving it for something?
and while i'm at it, where is the oh-so-important walt? and where is ben? where is juliette in alt-2004? they have 3.5 hours of tv time to wrap up a lot of loose ends. should be a fun ride, it's certainly been a fun one to this point...

Can't bring Juliet back, she's busy on the set of "V". I'm completely disgusted by the discarded Walt scenarios. And what i loved about this episode, which overall sucked - we live simply, weave by hand, don't even wear shoes, but by god, her legs were clean shaven! LOL |

I found it a pretty disappointing episode. 3 hours to go and what did we learn?
We learned: Some woman we just met told Jacob that for some hypothetical reason, he has to guard an obscure hidden radioactive sewer drain. If it's not guarded, people (who are ALL bad) might attach a wheel to an underground bunker and suddenly be able to leave the island. Oh, yeah, and evil might get out into the world. I hope he guards it well, can you imagine our world if there was evil all around us? I'm glad we don't have to deal with anything like that.
But we also learned the story of the 2 stones in the bag...yippee! That was high on the list of mysteries I wanted solved.
Oh, and not since a Star Wars teenage Luke Skywalker have we seen a character more whiny than Jacob. |

I think you're just suppose to accept the light and dark symbolism. Jacob's blonde, wears light colored clothes, uses the light colored rock in the game, protects the light, etc, so he's the good guy by default. Now if the MIB was playing up sex appeal and was a suave character, like James Bond then the roles would be reversed and the blonde would be the bad guy. This is hollywood 101.

I'll bet that you would have noticed it if they weren't shaved. |

We just got home from Hawaii, and we had a great time visiting some of the filming locations for Lost. My daughter and I stopped by the Kuoloa Ranch, and learned that Hurley and Ben had just been there to film a promo a couple days beforehand.
Here are a couple of the spots we visited...
This is the beach on the north end of Oahu where the plane crashes and a lot of scenes were filmed:
This is the Byodo-In Temple in the Valley of Temples, where Jin & Sun were married in Season 1. It's a replica of a temple in Japan:
This is the house Hurley bought his mom after winning the lottery. It's a regular residence near Diamond Head:
Anyway... thought I'd share some of those. We were late on joining the Lost bandwagon and have been buying the season DVDs to catch up! My wife and I have made it a nightly ritual to watch episodes... great series! |

Thanks for the photos, it's cool to look at where this has happened. Last night was great. I kind of figured it would be Jack stepping up to do the island bit. Who else thinks that Ben is truely the evil one. How many people has he killed? Jacob, Locke just to name two big ones. It was sad to see Richard go. This Sunday you will not pry me away from the TV. |

The bit with Richard was very anti-climatic. Anyone else wonder why he wasn't tapped as the defender of the island? Of course it would be Jack, at least on the surface. He's been that way on the island since Day 1 - step up, take charge, take the bullet. Question is, at the end of the next two hours, will he actually BE the one protecting the island? |

My money is on Sawyer because, well, he so badly does not want to be there.

I'm wondering if the island will even need protection at the end. |

My favorite exchange of the night:
Hurley - "He didn't tell me you'd be here."
Ana Lucia - "Do I know you chubby?"

If Jack's like Jacob now, and Jacob could leave the island and visit whomever he wanted at any point in time ... then opens up a whole world of possibilities for Jack:
* - Go tell himself not to get on the plane
* - Sabotage the plane so no one gets on it
* - Kill the person who started up Dharma
* - Tell Desmond not to buy that boat
* - Tell Ben not to kill Jacob
* - Tell Jacob not to throw his brother in the golden cave
I could go on forever |

Benjamin is going to double cross the Man in Black. He gave Miles a walkie-talkie so that he could go back and find out what it is Charles Widmore said or was thinking as he died. He will use that information to stop the Man in Black. I think he knew that the man in black would betray anyone to get off the island and the was confirmed in the end of the episode when the Man in Black said he would destroy the island. If Ben helps him succeed, there will be no island for Ben to have.
Although I should be convinced that Jack is taking Jacob's position, I could see a twist where jack ends up as the Man in Black(security system) and someone else will take Jacob's role. My only reason for this is Jack is dressed in dark clothes, the same attire as fake Locke.
One episode to go!

Perhaps it'll be Jack replacing Jacob and Sawyer replacing MIB. The show then ends with the two sitting on the beach and Sawyer leans over to Jack and says I want to kill you. It then fades to black and the Lost screensaver logo appears. Show ovah.

O.K. my husband pointed me to this really funny video:
The actual actors who play the Man In Black and Jacob are in it
MIB Counsels Jacob over their childhood (they both had a blast just letting go here)

O.K. what is the deal with Jack in the alternate timeline waking up or having cuts on his neck?
A friend of ours says it is a foreshadowing. He thinks Jack on the Island, who is now Guardian, will have his throat cut by the Man In Black. The Man In Black will succeed and it will be Ben that will defeat MIB. However the days of the Guardians will be at an end because the Island will sink because we saw the Island underwater in the alternate universe......
It makes sorta makes sense but I guess we will see just what happens this sunday.

i think it's definitely foreshadowing, but more likely jack is going to die in 2004, as there are no main characters dead in 2004 and almost all of them dead in 2007. i think the 2007 timeline will "win".
however, thinking back over the years obsessing over this show, discussing theories for hours weekly with peers at work, i think about how generally "wrong" our theories were. so i expect something completely unexpected from the finale |
