Those of you voting down wonderful shots with 1s or 3s or even 5s just because of...
1. You're an idiot
2. You have no idea what makes a good photograph.
3. You're on another DPL team...
Whatever the reason, I just felt it was important to let you know loudly and clearly...
YOU SUCK
YOU SUCK
YOU SUCK
Thanks and have a nice day. |

Repressing one's feelings is not healthy.
It can lead to things like hypertension and other nasties.
You should learn to express your true feelings. |

For some reason, I have this huge urge to go vote 1s, 2s, and 3s.

I think it was everyone that felt a wave of 3's 4's and 5's
What can you do but take a deep breathe and be proud of your own work no matter what dpc has given you for a score. Do it for yourself my friend. |

When your scores get you down, keep in mind that there are members here who have entered less than ten challenges who have an average vote of under 4. Some people have seemingly very high standards. Very high. When I see 1s and 2s on top notch work I think "What are you? High?"
Take solace in the occasional comment from some of the folks who's work you admire, who like what you are doing. This is not a juried exhibition, anyone is free to enter their work, so some is more polished than others; anyone is free to vote, so some are more informed than others. Ill take bad votes and seemingly idiotic comments, if that means I get input from some of the talented and giving people who make up the heart and soul of this membership. And there are always postumous ribbons to shoot for. |

Wonderful according to whom?
Remember, everything is subjective and that what you feel is wonderful another may not as is obvious in the votes given.

Sorry no... there are some magnificent, magazine quality shots that are given a rash of 1s by those who are ignorant, jealous or both.
It's not my judgment of the photos that are in question, but the one-givers. |

I gotta agree. In my opinion just taking the shot and uploading should get you more than a 1. |

Why? For effort? I have given out one votes, and most challenges give out the odd two. I vote based on my own opinion, and utilise the full range of scores available to me. At the end of the day, if nobody uses the 1-3 end of the range it merely compresses the scores together. There are plenty of really bad photos that are uploaded to challenges, and a whole heap that are just not very good. I see no reason why I shouldn't give the really bad ones a 1,2 or 3. |

According to you. It's your opinion. Someone else's opinion will probably disagree with yours. Neither is wrong. They're just different. |

This may be true in the case of some hypothetically trollish low voters, but it's easy for me to imagine there existing a class of voter who thinks that "magnificent, magazine-quality shots" are a craft, not an art, and who wants to reward the truly artistic, alternative visions of reality that some of our members consistently produce. And this voter will give low votes to the plastic, "packaged" images s/he encounters and high votes to everything that seems unadorned and "real" to him/her.
I got no quarrel with that. Nor do I have any quarrel with what I see as a staggering number of "wasted 10's", high scores being given to what are, to my eye anyway, essentially prepackaged, plastic, soulless images with lots of bling and no heart; and I see that all the time.
So it's all good. I am reminded of the late, great Kurt Vonnegut's 53rd Calypso of Bokonon from Cat's Cradle ΓΆ€”
Oh, a sleeping drunkard
Up in Central Park,
And a lion-hunter
In the jungle dark,
And a Chinese dentist,
And a British queen ΓΆ€”
All fit together
In the same machine.
Nice, nice, very nice;
Nice, nice, very nice;
Nice, nice, very nice ΓΆ€”
So many different people
In the same device!
R.

If I could roll eyes at you here, I would.
Egads.
There is NO SHOT that a respectable photographer would call magazine quality that is worthy of a "1" unless it clearly did not meet the challenge.
End of discussion. |

Whatever. You just don't want to get that others will have an opinion different than yours. |

End of discussion? You're dreaming now.
Robert's last post would be a good read if you have the time. There are plenty of reasons to give out scores of 1 to 3 in nearly every challenge. For example, a photo can be well taken, but totally disgusting subject material to a viewer/voter. |
