Does this mean that the "Diffuse Glow" effect is not legal? If so, is there a workaround?

Uhmmm I don't know about diffuse glow but Gaussian blur is allowed. Best to PM the Site Council for clarification.

Quite rare for me to get just one fave during voting; usually if I get a fave it's after voting. So one fave per current challenge makes me pretty happy!

Any suckers feel like a road trip to my area in the next few days ?
Snaffles - I'd go as far as to meet you in Belleville ;) I'll be there next Tuesday, actually.

Okay guys - help me out here.
A local kickboxing club has requested I take some photos for them. I know that at least one of the images will then be used in promotional flyers / FBook site, etc.
I cannot do this for free - I'd be shooting myself in the foot.
I have absolutely NO clue what would be a reasonable amount to ask though.
Any suggestions ?
If it matters, I'm in Canada (Ontario), with basically no experience !

How did they find you (do your children go there/are the owners friends)? How long will you be there? How many shots are involved? I don't really know a price range to give you, but these are things I'd take into consideration. If you or your kids go there maybe some bartering for services as part of the deal would be a good thing. When I do things for my aunts salon, I usually go with a flat rate & a CD package, minimal editing. |

I think it would be easiest to figure on a hourly bases, starting with travel and a good estimate on processing time. Itemize it on paper.
Travel- X hours @ $ X.XX
Time at site- X hours @ $ X.XX
Processing- X hours @ $ X.XX
Then list exactly what they will receive in return, AE X prints, or X# of finished printable images on a CD, and what they can and cannot use them for.
Keep it simple, and in black and white.

Hey Lea....hmmm I really can't say at this point, though it could be fun. I'll have to get back to you on it. |

A couple that I did a maternity shoot for not long ago, the Dad is a client.
At least that is how I understand it.
I'm trying to find out exactly what they want for photos right now.
I like the flat rate / CD idea - much easier for me.

Right there with you! Did you happen to see the scores on my fashion shot? I put so much work into that, I was sure it would get at least a high 5 if not a 6. I even went so far as to paint a wall in my basement for the background. So much for thinking. I don't think my daughter will ever model for me again. She said it never fails (and it doesn't) that when she models I get bad scores. I did her friend the week before and got a decent score, so it really upset her. |

Just looked at it, wow a low 5 that is kinda crazy. I didn't vote but probably would have scored it a 6 or 7. As soon as my Sports entry is done with voting I will post it here because I think the score is kinda crazy. Oh well, I got major props from skip so even if the score doesn't reflect it I know I still nailed the shot. |

My son's spring concert is tonight. He'll be blowing his horn (trumpet) tonight to the themes of Star Wars & Indiana Jones. LOL! Should be a fun night. I learned from last time not to bother taking the camera, because you can't actually see him from the audience. |

This one is even better, Kelli:
Whoever did the makeup and hair did a great job - was that you? And she looks very sultry in this! Tell her she did just fine! |

So long as he remembers to blow, he won't suck. Have fun! :-) |

I have a bird feeder up, stocked with only black oil sunflower seeds.
So far I have had cardinals, housefinches, goldfinches, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, bluejays, chickadees, house sparrows, red squirrels, mourning doves, chipmunks, mice and at least a couple other birds that I haven't seen enough of to even try and identify. They show up either to pillage the feeder themselves, or land on the ground and eat from there.
I remember seeing my first male housefinch there, and thinking OMG it's a rose-breasted grosbeak!
*pause til laughter from birders dies down*
Yeah, so now I know that vawendy got a perfect, beautiful example of a housefinch recently and even ribboned with it. Thus clearing up any confusion, mostly on my part, because I was sure it was a male rose-breasted grosbeak....until I googled it, man the two birds could not be any more different! At least I was right that it was a male :-0
So I was puttering around the house downstairs during late afternoon on May 4th...and there was a real, honest-to-gawd rose-breasted grosbeak at my feeder. Looked exactly like the images off of Google. Massive thick white beak, black head, black/white markings on back and wings, and a huge scarlet patch on his chest. Couldn't mistake him for anythiung else.
Of course the camera wasn't mounted up. So I tried to sneak up and shoot him handheld, but he was too skittish and left :-/ I think these birds migrate, not sure. So I might have blown my chance for this year.
However, a day or so later I did have the camera mounted up and the window open, screen removed etc so I wouldn't have to shoot through them. Whenever I see a new bird in the area, I make sure it can see and hear the camera, and see other accustomed birds going to the feeder and feeding unconcernedly, so it won't be frightened away. I don't think I could have scared away these two boys, one a goldfinch and one a housefinch, if I tried! Love the way the housefinch is craning his neck while he tries to figure out the camera, he looks more like a parrot than anything else.
But damn, sure wish I had got that rose-breasted grosbeak...*sigh*
