Umm.. that's how challenge entries are rated. |

Who would ever have thought that the Zen challenge would create this kind of tension...
How contradictory is that? |

It's NOT the DPL, or at least there is not as much effect as some conspiracy theorists here seem to believe.
There are a heck of a lot more entries in this challenge than usual (due to the DPL), so there are a lot of people who have scores that are being topped right now. They show up in threads like this to complain.
Not as many contestants who are scoring well post in here as compared to the contestants who are scoring poorly. So, until we see the final results of the challenge we won't know for sure if the DPL is having the effect that some people would like to believe.
My score? It's been undulating between 6.75 and 6.9 all day and this is the first time that I have posted my score (except in my team's thread). I don't think mine is getting targeted for downward voting due to it being the other voter's competition. It's right where I would expect it to be.

fair enough...
but that doesn't stop the SC from somehow differentiating the DPL photos from the regular entries. That would alleviate any guesswork as to "if DPL is affecting the scores"....... |

Exactly. The hysteria is silly. |

Say it again...
DPL challenges should have additional ratings...
DPL Competitors average vote: x.xxxx
DPL Entries average vote: x.xxxx
and settle it once and for all. :) |

I guess I missed the minimalist connection. My score is a lot lower than I expected, but I also relied on more of the harmony and simplicity aspect, just not minimalist. Oh well, I guess I won't be offsetting my last two challenges with a good one this time around either. Doesn't make any difference. I already sold a print of it.

I cant agree with you more. When I think of Zen I see something that calms me when I see it. It can be a flower or flowing water. A baby snuggled in the arms of a parent. Voting should always be by the emotion evoked in the voter when they look at a picture, not what fits the broad spectrum of what a person thinks is Zen.
My score is setting up to be the worst of all times and I dont care I love my shot..and I already sold a copy so money in the pocket..

Stones and linesin gravel, Zen? A tree in the mist, Zen? Nope, Zen is within you and around you, it becomes you and you become it. Still, perhaps the scoring is something to think about:) |

Bleh, mine's so silent and calming that voters are falling asleep on the 5 button the instant the image comes into view. |

I'm not complaining about the voting with this DPL stuff.
I've never been in a team before and it has made me enter both ZEN and Balloons.
I am scoring higher than usual (generally 5.5 area if I'm lucky)
So, no complaints from me. |

Kinda noob on the acronyms here, couldn't find translation on Urban Dictionary, either! What is DPL and what is all this about teams? I thought all pics were judged individually. And about the "1" votes, c'mon, I know people are trying to push scores but you ruin the fun by making a picture get a vote that is only warranted if absolutely no effort was made to take the pic (no focus, no DOF, crappy angle, etc.) Let's just make a simple, honest effort to vote here: heck, if being lazy, give a pic a 5 if it is at least taken with some skill. Most pictures are going to be average, anyways (mine included, I bet), and 5 is at least median score which usually becomes the average, anyways. This could at least reflect the actual value of the image to the photographer, so as not to discourage them. And if voting for a friend, be honest. If your friend can't take your criticism, what kind of friend are they? |

This of course hadn't occurred to me until I saw my mid-4 scores and didn't think they were that bad. I haven't voted, and probably won't. Just a guess as to what's up.
Also, there are a lot of entries. My view-to-vote ratio in Zen is nearly 1:1, which tells me people are drive-by-voting because there are so many. If they would just spend a bit more time they would notice tomorrow's winning lotto numbers in the bottom right corner. Zen is not for the impatient. |

A low score wouldn't bother me so much if I at least was receiving comments on why people were voting that way.
Someone made a comment about "drive by voting". I couldn't agree more. I have almost a 1:1 view:vote ratio and only 1 comment on over a 100 votes! |

The more entries there are, the more likely those in the middle-low range won't get comments. |

That's me, for sure. No comments, 150 views, and voting shut off. Don't need to see it dipping even lower.Originally posted by scalvert: Originally posted by glockguy: I have almost a 1:1 view:vote ratio and only 1 comment on over a 100 votes! |

I guess being average doesn't get you comments. (The one comment I received is a single word followed by ellipsis)
I guess that means I should throw down some comments of my own. |
