I think, and I may be wrong ...

The non-alternative 2007 timeline happened BEFORE Daniel shot back to 1977, got shot by his mom (Eloise) and talked Jack into nuking the island. I say before, but I guess what I mean to say is that timeline was erased by a new event happening before it (the bomb).

Remember Eloise (who should be dead in the sideways timeline because the nuclear bomb blew her up in 1977) wouldn't let Desmond read the invitation list? I'll bet it's because the invitation list has ALL the Losties on it and she didn't want to further trigger his memory. That's going to be an interesting event.

Eloise didn't get blown up. She is alive and well in the non-alternate 2007 timeline. Remember, she's the one that told them to get on Ajira 316. She's also the one that sold Desmond the engagement ring before he went to the island.

Every Desmond episode is "one of the best episodes" : - )

I have said from the first time I saw Desmonds story line that he plays a very big part in this whole thing.

HA!

Just watched the Episode (recorded it last night). Great Googly Moogly!

Side note: The actress who plays Penny plays a main character, Olivia, in the show Flash-forward (love that show too; and the actor who plays Charlie is in that show too). Sooooooo, when Penny in the Alt universe shook Desmond's hand, Desmond had a 'flashforward' of his 'flashback';-)

Oh and the whole thing with Jacob and the Man in Black smacks of the story of the Angel of Death and Satan testing Job in the Testment of Job in the bible...

I thought last night's episode was the best one in three years!! I sure hope the writers don't finalize this like Dallas - "oh, Bobby, it was a dream." LOL

So more questions answered. I'm getting excited to see how this will end.

I think it's been a great closer so far--though I can't help but think the storyline was written expressly to bring in as many of the characters as possible. And I suspected that even before they brought back Libby and Michael.

I'm right there with you, I'm thinking we will see more before it is over. What song were they playing for next week I couldn't make it out.

it was the willy wonka song he sang while on the chocolate river paddle boat.

i'm loving where this is heading. i actually got gooseflesh when hurley's island memories came flooding into his alt-2004 self.

i'm guessing (again) that at some point people will have to decide between one reality or the other....i'm just wondering if it's going to be an all or nothing situation. it's shaping up to be that everyone is better off in alt-2004....

Of course, Michael's son, who was constantly touted as being "all important" in the first season, is nowhere to be seen and turns out not to have mattered after all...

This is so good I'm getting excited for the finish.

while sad...somehow it felt VERY "right". i think i was waiting for them to kill some main characters.

i think the rip between the timelines is getting wider and we are going to see a mix of the two. have you seen anyone dying in BOTH timelines? that or, they're going to show some kind of paradox happening where the whole thing starts over again back on 815 in some never ending loop. (dark tower anyone?)

So what did everyone think?? Did you see the brother idea coming? I did see that I had thought that for awhile. Can't wait for next week. I'm going to be sad when it is done. I'm thinking that I want the whole series for a Christmas gift.

didn't see the brother angle coming. but i was definitely of the opinion that we were purposely being misled that jacob was "good" while MIB was "evil". looks like that isn't quite certain even now, looks like jacob may indeed be the bad guy here.

while disappointed they spent an entire ep when only 3 remain, focusing on three characters that i dont have much emotional attachment to, i guess i still feel like it was a necessary episode to establish the whole island/jacob/mib history.

One of the most disappointing episodes ever.

A cave full of light? Really?

I had the same let down feeling I got while watching the Julianne Moore movie "The Forgotten"

I think we kept making it a dark/good dichotomy when it doesn't appear that either side has purely good or evil intentions. There are many moments where MiB didn't lie about things. He does want to go home. He was being honest about the candidates when he showed Sawyer. He's killed a bunch of people, but it would seem that Jacob has used others so that he could also "leave" the island in a sense.

I wouldnt' say most disappointing EVER but I am a bit annoyed. The promo indicated that we would learn John's motivation behind what he's doing... but I just don't see it. What did we really learn about WHY? We know Jacob's protecting *something* on the island but we still don't know what or why. We already knew John/mib/why-didn't-they-give-us-his-freakin'-name wants off the island. Again, we dont' know why.

In the official podcast the exec prod said they hoped this episode put to rest the question of whether "John" is bad; they seem to indicate that now it's clear he is. I still don't see it clear as day.

My question is still who is the man in black? His brother is dead right? So I imagine the smoke monster is something else entirely and just used the mib's body. Still so many questions and only, what, 3 hours left?

Good call. I hadn't thought of that.
