Entry - did OK, but I really did try to do "well":
I did get some good feedback on why it didn't do as well as I might have hoped. Boring is the main reason.
Would the alternative have been better?

I love both of them...the second is my favorite. Well done on the challenge anyway. *smiles*

Entry
Outtake:
It was a hard choice. I liked the first because of the eyes, and the second because of the humor. Ultimately, I liked the first one better.
What do you think? |

Yes -- much lovelier, more well composed, more interesting and variegated bokeh. |

Your entry is more dramatic, your outtake more sweet, but in my view both suffer from the background elements. |

Entry
Flora
Some comments gave insight that her pose was throwing people off. My eldest was lying down (let me tell you, she was very happy to be comfortable and lying down:-) )on the fabric while I took the shot standing on a chair from above (BTW I did it this way so that I could just rest the fabric flower petals on her eyelids). Her head is resting on a folded brown pillow (and darn it after several takes I had not realized that her hair fell off the pillow and exposed it). Taking another long look at the photo made me see that the slight elevation of the head makes her head look bigger than her body. An unintentional optical illusion. The backdrop was also a risk but I loved the vine pattern that went with the theme....and believe me the first shoot with another backdrop was absolutely horrid.
Autumn on a Cosmic Wind
A cool effect on inverting the backdrop of a swirled shampoo and using Photo Pop setting of Topaz adjust to get the vibrant blues. Fits into my other themed "Cosmic" titled shots of flora/fruits with pops of color. Didn't enter it for it appears to 'processed'.
Pandora's Egg: Hope Hatches
Would have been great for the challenge but shot was taken 2 days before announcement. Gah!

I like the alternative more for a see more pop of the color orange AND a lot more texture on the petals that, to me at least, that coupled with the bokeh background invokes the sense of softness. |

I missed the entry deadline because I had got it in my head the challenge was a Tuesday night roll-over. Oh well.

I think you picked the right one Karen. You should add that as an article to "How I did that" :) |
