Yeah, I couldn't figure out why this one flopped at the box office. It wasn't brilliant but it was a perfectly serviceable and fun animated feature. |

Le Derniere Maquis A rambling film about workers at a pallet shop...There's something about Islam too, but I thought it lacked focus, not literally, but in the story. 4/10 |

Barbie as the Island Princess 10/10
I watched it with my 3 (very soon to be 4) year old. Loved it! Great music.
I tell you, if you have a daughter, get the Barbie series...they are FANTASTIC! |

Brothers - 6.5/10
Not bad really. It would be a truly great movie, carrying a lot of emotional weight and import about the effects of war upon young men, if it weren't for the totally flacid performances when something emotionally shattering has occured. On at least 3 occasions in the movie, something pretty seriously bad happens, yet the cast act like it's a light bulb that needs changing- with a mild sigh. It's a shame, as those moments ruin what should be an emotional and poignant story.
Still, Jake Gyllenhall is great. I'm liking him more and more as his career progresses. And Tobey Maguire is rather adept at playing a traumatised soldier back from Afghanistan. And Natalie Portman? I definitely would. |

Surrogates - 5/5-6/5
Decent sci-fi premise with humanitarian message. It wasn't over the top enough to be a funhouse ride, but it was too superficially explored, with too many unanswered questions, to be a serious and satisfying film. It was good that Bruce Willis wasn't in smirky sarcastic supercop mode, but the film could have used a little humor. |

Surrogates - 7/10
Predictable, familiar plot with lots of implausibility - I don't mind stretching technology or physical capabilities in movies, but what I have a hard time with is when the plot or even the main premise is at odds with what I believe society and/or groups within society are capable of or how they would behave. I still rate it high because it was still overall entertaining. |

| Repo Men -- I haven't really decided how to rate it yet. It was extremely bloody and brutal. The concept is interesting. Jude Law is unbelievably hot. I found it hard to watch at times due to the copious amounts of slayings and slashings. The end has a twist that you don't really expect, and I always appreciate that. Would like to hear from others what they thought. |

I can't believe how 'regular' the movie was. I liked the idea of moving the story forward with Alice growing up initially but it turned into some kind of random fanfiction. I kept sighing in the middle wishing for one scene or the other that would have looked awesome on screen.

i must have seen this about 6 times now and was at a friends and it was on tv (yep even put up with the adds)

In theatre:
How to Train Your Dragon 3D 8/10
Cute, rooting for the underdog (the mis-understood youth) story, decent dialogue, fun animation and lots of the usual "hidden" adult humour.
As for 3D though, if it's cheaper in your area to see a regular showing, do it. The 3D is pretty limited in this film. Over all another great
Dreamworks production.
Alice in Wonderland 5/10
Costumes and animation were excellent, the premise of Alice going back grown up was cool (didn't actually know this part), but I was rather disappointed in the overall story, not what I'd expect from Tim Burton. As a few seem to have said, if he'd have used more of Lewis Carroll's weirdness, combined with his own, I know he could have done better. Disappointed in Johnny's performance too, he forgot to leave Jack with the pirates.
I've turned my boys into little Johnny Depp fans but not particularly interested in purchasing this one. Not to mention I'm not sure it's a good example for my kids to repeatedly see a caterpillar smoking from a hookah lol.

Fun, engrossing, entertaining. Just the right balance of everything an animated movie should have.
The Blind Side - 4/10
I can't believe Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for this mediocre and monotone performance. I don't know the first thing about American football so I didn't have a clue what was going on in some scenes, which explains why it wasn't such a big hit this side of the pond. Predictable, forgettable, and nauseatingly sweet - and the racial stereotyping was outrageous. |

Sherlock Holmes 9/10
Plenty of eye candy (visual and sound) with a great updated Holmes story in the true style of the original short stories. Doesn't hurt that Guy Ritchie is my favorite director and I love his style as well.

| "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," with Nicholas Cage, directed by Werner Herzog. Didn't think I'd enjoy it because the original "Bad Lieutenant" with Harvey Keitel, while a very well done movie, was thoroughly depressing and an experience I didn't want to repeat. But Nicholas Cage was fantastic, quirky and hallucinatory. Good cinematography. If you like offbeat, you'll like this movie. |

Land of the Lost - 2/10
Got this for free from the library. Was it worth the cost? I laughed a couple of times, was grossed out at least once, and otherwise squirmed with discomfort at how unfunny it was. This 100 minutes seemed interminable. Terrible. |

Law Abiding Citizen - 8/10
Sort of an updated "Death Wish" but with a twist. Suspenseful and well acted. I enjoyed it. |
